“‘Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight or quantity. 36 Use honest scales and honest weights, an honest ephah and an honest hin. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt. 37 “‘Keep all my decrees and all my laws and follow them. I am the Lord.’” Leviticus 19:35-37 NIV
Lord of all,
Leviticus is not an easy read! I wonder how many have read it through every word . . . or need to? Paul tells us all scripture is good for teaching, reproof and correction ( 2 Timothy 3:16). It does not say we can leave some bits out alas. But some of the laws were particular to their time. These verses however struck me as fitting for all ages and all times. I have a rogue weighing scales that sticks and I have to nudge it a bit to make sure it is weighing right. I have been turning my blackberries into bramble jelly jam and the proportions are extremely important or it comes out too runny or too solid!
But it is not the scales fault if they weigh wrong it is user error. And the user who weighs short measure for others is displaying a cheating dishonest character. You never short change us God.
You know when we are being just a bit selfish. Being good but perhaps a little short on generous or not giving help when it would make all the difference. We don’t always do it on purpose Lord. Sometimes we get stuck and need one of Your loving nudges to get us right again. Thank You Lord for bringing us out of our Egypt, out of captivity to sin to live and love and serve. Keep us honest and generous like You.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
Lord of all,
We pray for the people in our lives.
We pray for peace and the end to war in Ukraine and an end to warfare coming out of Russia.
We pray for the well being and prosperity of the towns where we live. For our King, his family and our Parliament. For the fellowship, the church where we worship and our brothers and sisters around this wonderful world.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
Worship Friday 8th Sept 2023
There is no problem too big
God can not solve it
There is no mountain too tall
He can not move it
There is no storm too dark
God can not calm it
There is no sorrow too deep
He can not soothe it
If he carried the weight of the world, upon his shoulders
I know, my brother, that he will carry you
If he carried the weight of the world, upon his shoulders
I know, my sister, that he will carry you
He said, “Come unto me, all who are weary, and I will give you rest”
If he carried the weight of the world, upon his shoulders
I know, my brother, that he will carry you
If he carried the weight of the world, upon his shoulders
I know, my sister, that he will carry you
