“At that time the Lord said to me, ‘Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones. Also make a wooden Ark—a sacred chest to store them in. Come up to me on the mountain, 2 and I will write on the tablets the same words that were on the ones you smashed. Then place the tablets in the Ark.’ “So I made an Ark of acacia wood and cut two stone tablets like the first two. Then I went up the mountain with the tablets in my hand. Once again the Lord wrote the Ten Commandments on the tablets and gave them to me. They were the same words the Lord had spoken to you from the heart of the fire on the day you were assembled at the foot of the mountain. Then I turned and came down the mountain and placed the tablets in the Ark of the Covenant, which I had made, just as the Lord commanded me. ” Deuteronomy 10:1-5 NLT
“Clearly, you are a letter from Christ showing the result of our ministry among you. This ‘letter’ is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts.” 2 Corinthians 3:3 NLT
Heavenly Father,
Not an easy task to chisel out two tablets of stone – especially Moses remembering he himself smashed the first ones as an emotional reaction. He made an Ark too or rather those skilled in carpentry and carving and gold embossing did! It represented a holy place, a God spot, and the tablets were placed inside it.
Your Word in the Ark in the centre of the camping Tribes. And in the midst of them as they moved off. How often the Old Testament reflects the coming New. Now You call us to keep You Word and Law in the centre of our lives – in our hearts. And You chisel it into our heart by Your Holy Spirit if we will ask and allow Him to. That is one thing that remains the same – it is our choice.
We can read Your Word like a good book. We can know Jesus as a good man. Or we can allow Him, by Your Holy Spirit to bring Your Word to our hearts and apply it daily, minute by minute till it is as natural to us as breathing. Not in a religious, strict way but as Jesus did, with gentleness and strength, kindness and direction, certainty and hopefulness. Help me know the ‘Thou shalt nots’
and help me know the ‘Thou shalts . . .
In Jesus name we pray, Amen
