“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked advance against me to devour me,
it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall.
3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.
4 One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.
5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.”
Psalm 27:1-6 NIV
Lord God and Father,
Sometimes we cannot run away from responsibilities, trouble, family concerns, unpredictable events . . . then we need You to come to our aid as You did David’s. We need You to hold us up and help us to find that dwelling place with You where we can find strength and hope and glimpse Your holiness.
The more I read David’s Psalms I think he must have spent time alone with You. And caught glimpses of Your beauty, holiness and love even though he did not know Jesus. We too need those moments when our hearts and our heads see faith and know Your presence.
For those of us who find it difficult to sit still or just stop in the physical, we find it harder still to wait in Your presence long enough to refocus and see. Is the one thing I would ask be to dwell in Your house (Kingdom) all the days of my life? To gaze on Your beauty and seek You right where I am? Do I pause in Your presence long enough? Help me find that place and those times where You and I can meet and I can glimpse Your holiness and receive strength.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
Worship Thursday 22nd May 2025
I don’t think I have listened to this since the days of prayer soaking meetings which started in the UK around 2000 I think? But you do need 6 1/2 minutes to stop and listen to this . . . May not be Your choice but now and again it is good to know what others are blessed by . . . and soak in his presence.
Hide me in the secret place,
Where Your love will ever shine on me,
Keep me in Your tenderness
And fill me with Your grace
For I want to dwell on the highway of holiness
And I want to live in the shelter of my King
My heart is set to obey
And to follow in your way
Oh hide me in the secret place
Hide me in the secret place
Where there is no other place to be
Still my heart in Your embrace
And keep me from all fear
Chorus . . . Repeat
