“Give unto the Lord, O you mighty ones,
Give unto the Lord glory and strength.
Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name;
Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
The God of glory thunders;
The Lord is over many waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
The voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars,
Yes, the Lord splinters the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes them also skip like a calf,
Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox.
The voice of the Lord divides the flames of fire.

The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
The Lord shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh.
The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth,
And strips the forests bare;
And in His temple everyone says, “Glory!”

10 The Lord sat enthroned at the Flood,
And the Lord sits as King forever.
11 The Lord will give strength to His people;
The Lord will bless His people with peace.” Psalm 29 NKJ

Lord of the mighty Voice,

Did David write Psalm 8 on a moonlit night? “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? (Psalm 8:3,4).Did he write Psalm 19 on a sunny morning? “God has made a home in the heavens for the sun. It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race.(Psalm 19:4b,5 NLT).

Did he write this on Psalm 29 in the midst of a great thunder storm? When great trees were split in two (verse 5) and lightening started fires (verse 7)?

One thing is certain that David has glimpsed the power of what You have created and realised it is small against Your magnificence and power and might. So he writes this Psalm of pure praise. You speak and things happen. And we also know that. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God . . . and the word became flesh and dwelt among us. A powerful Word that was Jesus and He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. (John 1:1-14)

So we too praise You for Your almighty voice that conquered death and will be faithful until You have fulfilled Your purposes. That speaks strength to Your people in every generation. Until You come again. We will praise You.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Saturday 25th May 2025
Traditional hymn that reflects Psalm 29. Could do with a bit of thunder and lightening for atmosphere.

O worship the King all-glorious above,
O gratefully sing his power and his love:
our shield and defender, the Ancient of Days,
pavilioned in splendor and girded with praise.

O tell of his might and sing of his grace,
whose robe is the light, whose canopy space.
His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form,
and dark is his path on the wings of the storm.

Thy bountiful care, what tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;
it streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,
and sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.

O measureless Might, ineffable Love,
while angels delight to hymn Thee above!
Thy humble creation though feeble their lays
With true adoration shall sing to Thy praise!
