Father,
A last look at David’s Psalms before we continue through the Bible and learn about Solomon, his son. A wise Son but not as wise as yours Father! (But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. James 3:17). Jesus was the pure personification of that.
The scholars are not sure if this Psalm was written when David was young, when Saul was chasing him to kill him. Or when David was taking the Ark up to Jerusalem and dancing before it when Michal saw and despised him. (2 Samuel 6:16).
It does not focus on our human need to be comforted but on finding the comfort we need in You, God. And as David found You to be the God he could trust and put his hope in, we too have found we can trust and hope in You through Jesus. And we too need to call others to get to know this calm and quiet in our soul that can only come from You. Today help us to come to worship, not proud and haughty but fully trusting in You, now and always.
