“But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. 18 They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” 19 It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.24 Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, 25 to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.” Jude 1:17-25 NIV
Majestic Lord,
This letter written by Jude , possibly a child of Mary and Joseph born after Jesus (a half brother). And 1 Corinthians 9:5 mentions Jesus brothers came to faith and travelled preaching the gospel.
A punchy and pithy letter firing commands and statements up front. Today it might not stand the test of political correctness but it is so valuable. Jude reminds us that there is a time and a place for the aggressive protection of the truth from those who would seek to tear it down. And those who would work there way in for their own evil purposes. We may not like doing all the safeguarding training but it is absolutely essential. How often the enemy seeks to appear in angels clothing. (2 Corinthians 11:14).
We need to protect our Christian family from those who seek to do it harm. To be able to discern who is still learning and who is trying to deceive us into thinking they are good and who has been offended or hurt and needs to be lovingly brought back into the fold like the lost sheep.
Jude then ends with a prayer that is a statement of eternal truth which is still both powerful and eternally encouraging. It is definitely worth saying out loud and personalising. “Now, to You Lord, who is able to keep me from stumbling, and to present me faultless before the presence of Your glory with exceeding joy, to God my Saviour, who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.” I believe You have me Father.
In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
