Father and teacher,
You put religious festivals and practices into place that would not only remind Your people about Your provision but teach Your people about You but also about worship, thanksgiving and their future. You instigated annually, the Passover meal, the feast of weeks, the feast of trumpets, the Day of Atonement and the feast of tabernacles.
Many were about coming together and eating and being a community, set apart and with many blessings from God to give thanks for.
They also prophetically pointed to our future. As we now celebrate annually at Easter that Jesus is our passover lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7). The feast of weeks or Pentecost, which comes 7 weeks after passover we also count 7 weeks after Easter and celebrate Pentecost. The coming of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-4). The feast of trumpets, a time to give an offering of fire (Leviticus 23:23-25) to blew the trumpets to announce the end of harvest. Surely for us this must be a reminder that Jesus is coming back there will be a final harvest. Jesus reminds us to be ready (Matthew 25).
The Day of Atonement reminds us that sacrifice is now redundant. When Jesus died the 60 ft curtain closing off the holy of holies was rent in two (Matthew 27:51). You, God opened the way to know and receive from You personally. We carry this truth in our hearts always and particularly as we take communion. The feast of tabernacles was an opportunity to gather together and thank You for your provision in the wilderness. Perhaps it would do us good to live simply in a tent and remember how blessed we are!
That is a lot to take in Lord. But we see the new in the Old. We respect the old and embrace the new. The foundation You were laying down for Your people and the future You were pointing to. The future in Jesus. Our future in Jesus.
In Jesus name we pray.
Worship Friday 20th February 2026
Who breaks the power of sin and darkness?
Whose love is mighty and so much stronger?
The King of glory, the King above all kings
Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder?
And leaves us breathless in awe and wonder?
The King of glory, the King above all kings
This is amazing grace, this is unfailing love
That You would take my place
That You would bear my cross
You laid down Your life, that I would be set free
Oh, Jesus, I sing for all that You’ve done for me
Who brings our chaos back into order?
Who makes the orphans a son and daughter?
The King of glory, the King of glory
Who rules the nations with truth and justice
Shines like the sun in all of its brilliance
The King of glory, the King above all kings
Chorus
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy, worthy, worthy
Chorus
All that You’ve done for me
