“The burden which the prophet Habakkuk saw. 2 O Lord, how long shall I cry, and You will not hear? Even cry out to You, “Violence!” And You will not save. 3 Why do You show me iniquity, and cause me to see trouble? For plundering and violence are before me; there is strife, and contention arises. 4 Therefore the law is powerless, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; therefore perverse judgment proceeds.” Habakkuk 1:1-4 NKJV

Lord God,

Habakkuk is really having a bad time. His eyes are full of disaster and nothing else. It seems to him that You, God are allowing all the sin and enemies to plunder and do violence. There is no clear judgement on anything. He is confused because Assyria is being punished at the hands of Babylon for their treatment of Israel, the northern kingdom. But Babylon is being allowed to bring judgement on Judah when the Babylonians are just as evil and bad!

This could be us trying to pray into today’s world and not seeing Your plan. Sometimes there are no clear answers. But, we are grateful that we can come to You in prayer and in our confusion and share our frustration with You. Habakkuk asks the hard questions as we do. And we too do not always get answers. But You are still God and we are not capable of seeing all You are at work in and through (Isaiah 55:8,9).

And if we could explain what You are doing, You would not be God but just a man. You are Lord above all, omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient (all present, all powerful and all knowing) and You are working to Your plan, in Your time. Your grace and mercy among the deepest sins. And Your hand on us, Your Spirit in us, as we make our way home to our promised land. One day at a time asking questions just as Habakkuk did.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Not had this for some time. A powerful statement amidst confusion.

Where O where’s Your presence O God?
In this dry and weary land
So many people drifting away
How we need to understand…
You’re still God
Even when we’re unbelieving
Still God
When we’re desperate for our healing
Still God, you’re still God, you’re still God.

You’re still God
Even when our friends desert us.
Still God
Even through the things that hurt us
Still God, still God
So I will be still, and know You are God.

Where O where’s Your kingdom O God?
We have let holiness go
So many idols litter our land
We’ve got to let this nation know…
You’re Still God
When the government has no answers
Still God
When the media lowers the standard
Still God, you’re still God, you’re still God

You’re still God
When the plans we make are worthless
Still God
When we lose our sense of purpose
Still God, You’re still God,
So I will be still, and know You are God.

When will Jesus really be seen
Through the church that bears his name
Agents of his kingdom, his peace
In the world for which he came
You’re still God
Even though You were rejected
Still God
Though You were ridiculed, deserted
Still God, you’re still God, you’re still God

You’re still God
Though You suffered execution
Still God
You’re alive and Christ our champion
Still God, still God
So I will be still, and know You are God

“Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and made him king in his father’s place in Jerusalem. 2 Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he became king, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. 3 Now the king of Egypt deposed him at Jerusalem; and he imposed on the land a tribute of one hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold. 4 Then the king of Egypt made Jehoahaz’s brother Eliakim king over Judah and Jerusalem, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. And Necho took Jehoahaz his brother and carried him off to Egypt. 5 Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And he did evil in the sight of the Lord his God.” 2 Chronicles 36:1-5 NKJV

Father God,

What has Your family come to. Those You particularly adopted from the time of Abraham. Israel have been carried off to Assyria and now Judah’s king, Josiah is killed in battle at the hands of the the King of Egypt. Jehoahaz reigns 3 months after him and then is disposed and taken to Egypt along with much of Judah’s wealth. His brother Jehoahaz becomes the Egyptian King Nacho’s puppet king choice. We are told he did evil in Your sight Lord God. He was probably the easiest brother to control!

It does not look good for God’s plans for His world, his creation and His nation’s people. It does not look good for the other nations which You have foretold will be judged also and not escape punishment.

And yet we know that some of those deported from Jerusalem are faithful to You and out of adversity comes faith. But for now God they have made their choices. And You? You chose to remain the same. Not abandoning, not forsaking, but calling and planning and providing for their present and future. As You are today, even when we cannot see it, understand it. You are moving in our world and moving in our lives. One day we will see.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

In our mess of a world, mess of a nation, words of encouragement we all need at sometimes. I did. I do.

Don’t assume that God’s dismissed you from his mind,
Don’t assume that God’s forgotten to be kind;
For no matter what you do, his love still follows you;
Don’t think that you have left him far behind.

Chorus
For his love remains the same,
He knows you by your name,
Don’t think because you failed him he despairs;
For he gives to those who ask
His grace for every task,
God plans for you in love for he still cares.

Don’t assume that God will plan for you no more,
Don’t assume that there’s no future to explore;
For your life he’ll re-design, the pattern be divine;
Don’t think that your repentance he’ll ignore.

Chorus
For his love remains the same,
He knows you by your name,
Don’t think because you failed him he despairs;
For he gives to those who ask
His grace for every task,
God plans for you in love for he still cares.

Third verse not included in video . . .
Don’t assume you cannot give what he’ll demand,
Don’t assume that God condemns you out of hand;
For he gives to those who ask his grace for every task;
Don’t think that God will fail to understand.

“A prophecy concerning Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite. The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord takes vengeance and is filled with wrath. The Lord takes vengeance on his foes and vents his wrath against his enemies. 3 The Lord is slow to anger but great in power; the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished. His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and clouds are the dust of his feet.” Nahum 1:1-3 NKJV

““I am against you,” declares the Lord Almighty. “I will lift your skirts over your face. I will show the nations your nakedness and the kingdoms your shame. 6 I will pelt you with filth, I will treat you with contempt and make you a spectacle. 7 All who see you will flee from you and say, ‘Nineveh is in ruins—who will mourn for her?’ Where can I find anyone to comfort you?”” Nahum 3:5-7 NKJV

Lord Almighty,

Who only can rightly judge the nations. You has seen, heard, know and understand it all. In the past You sent Jonah to Nineveh and they repented en masse! Perhaps we underestimated what a frightening prospect that was. An enemy city full of heathen idol worshippers greedy for new territory and bloodthirsty. One man. Since then Assyria had returned to idolatry, become powerful, defeating their enemies and neighbouring territories Especially the Northern kingdom of Israel.

Even though You God were angry at Your children for disobeying You, You cannot overlook Nineveh’s terrible treatment of them. Nahum reminds us that You sovereign. The nations.are Yours whether they believe it or not. And one day that judgement will be seen by the whole world. The illustration Nahum uses of being put to shame now, and made a disgusting spectacle of, is both vivid and dreadful. Shame is a terrible thing. It constantly condemns, constantly brings guilt and is endless in its degradation.

Thank You, God we can fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. who for the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame to take his place at Your throne. He scorned our shame. That is He rejected, dismissed, removed it from us along with our sin. We do not have to have shame eat us up for the rest of our lives. How wonderful.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Just needed a familiar hymn to say what I believe and with great gratitude.

How marvelous! How wonderful!
And my song shall ever be;
How marvelous! How wonderful!
Is my Saviour’s love for me!

I stand amazed in the presence
Of Jesus the Nazarene,
And wonder how he could love me,
A sinner, condemned, unclean.

How marvelous! How wonderful!
And my song shall ever be;
How marvelous! How wonderful!
Is my Saviour’s love for me!

He took my sins and my sorrows,
He made them his very own;
He bore the burden to Calv’ry,
And suffered and died alone.

Chorus

When with the ransomed in glory
His face I at last shall see,
‘Twill be my joy through the ages
To sing of his love for me.

Chorus repeat . . .
