“Then the people of Israel—the priests, the Levites and the rest of the exiles—celebrated the dedication of the house of God with joy. 17For the dedication of this house of God they offered a hundred bulls, two hundred rams, four hundred male lambs and, as a sin offering for all Israel, twelve male goats, one for each of the tribes of Israel. 18And they installed the priests in their divisions and the Levites in their groups for the service of God at Jerusalem, according to what is written in the Book of Moses. 19On the fourteenth day of the first month, the exiles celebrated the Passover. 20The priests and Levites had purified themselves and were all ceremonially clean. The Levites slaughtered the Passover lamb for all the exiles, for their relatives the priests and for themselves. 21So the Israelites who had returned from the exile ate it, together with all who had separated themselves from the unclean practices of their Gentile neighbors in order to seek the Lord, the God of Israel. 22For seven days they celebrated with joy the Festival of Unleavened Bread, because the Lord had filled them with joy by changing the attitude of the king of Assyria so that he assisted them in the work on the house of God, the God of Israel.” Ezra 6:16-22 NLT

God of Glory,

The Temple is finished. That was an incredible feat with no machinery or bought in blocks of stone. And all would have to be cleaned to perfection. Although with all the sacrifices it would not have stayed that way! And passover was celebrated so they could all approach You and give thanks for being saved when the firstborn of the Egyptians died. And it was a joyful celebration. You had enabled even their enemies to help them! But the walls are not repaired . . .

I don’t think of my church as a Temple because I know I can seek You wherever I am. But it is the place I meet with my Christian family to worship, take communion, pray and study Your Word. Some churches meet in halls and schools and they cannot ensure their buildings are kept dedicated to You outside of worship. But as far as we are able and when we are at worship we can ensure there is nothing to offend You God and it is a safe place to encounter You.

My house too Lord, I pray is clean – well it is lived in and dusty and a little untidy – but I pray that there is no book or object or anything that would offend. Help me to keep my home holy. And yet welcoming and open to those who do not know You. I pray they will find Your peace, joy or whatever is their need in the home You have provided me with or the place I share with my fellow believers.

In Jesus name I pray, Amen

Psalm 84:10 Better to spend one day in God’s presence than a thousand without him?

How lovely is Your dwelling place, Oh Lord Almighty
My soul longs and even faints for You
For here my heart is satisfied, within Your presence
I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings

Better is one day in Your courts
Better is one day in Your house
Better is one day in Your courts
Than thousands elsewhere

Better is one day in Your courts
Better is one day in Your house
Better is one day in Your courts
Than thousands elsewhere

 One thing I ask, and I would seek, to see Your beauty,
To find You in the place Your glory dwells
Better is one day in Your courts

Chorus . . .

My heart and flesh cry out,
For You the living God
Your Spirit’s water for my soul
I’ve tasted and I’ve seen,
Come once again to me.
I will draw near to You.
I will draw near to You.

Chorus repeat . . .

“Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey— riding on a donkey’s colt”. Zechariah 9:9 NLT

“Tell the people of Jerusalem, ‘Look, your King is coming to you. He is humble, riding on a donkey— riding on a donkey’s colt.’” Matthew 21:5 NLT

 “Then I will pour out a spirit of grace and prayer on the family of David and on the people of Jerusalem. They will look on me whom they have pierced and mourn for him as for an only son. They will grieve bitterly for him as for a firstborn son who has died.” Zechariah 12:10 NLT

“On that day a fountain will be opened for the dynasty of David and for the people of Jerusalem, a fountain to cleanse them from all their sins and impurity.” Zechariah 13:1 NLT

“On that day living waters shall flow out from Jerusalem, half of them to the eastern sea and half of them to the western sea.nIt shall continue in summer as in winter. And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day the Lord will be one and his name one.” Zechariah 14:8-9 NLT

Sovereign Lord,

Zechariah is not an easy read in that some of it is in prophetic pictorial language that I cannot fully understand Lord. The message to the returned exiles of the day was clearer. But then standing back we also see glimpses of hope and a future. It is only in reading the gospels and seeing it quoted that we see Zechariah was also looking far into the future with hope. And we, we have had our eyes opened by that hope in Jesus.

A future King who would came in peace. A king always rode a donkey, a humble beast when visiting in peace. A firstborn son who would be grieved over, from David’s family. Who would be killed and then mourned for. How many hymns have been written about the cleansing fountain filled with blood. One that comes to my mind Lord is:

“There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Immanuel’s veins;
And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains” (William Cowper)

We do not sing about fountains of blood as much today perhaps it appears too gory. But the crucifixion was gory. But after the blood was shed came the living water, the Spirit poured forth to all the world not just to Jerusalem!

You kept Your promises. We can trust You. As the disciples prayed in Luke 17:5 “Show us how to increase our faith.”

In Jesus name we pray,

Worship Saturday 27th September 2025

Are you thirsty
Are you empty
Come and drink these Living Waters
Time unbroken
Peace unspoken
Rest beside these Living Waters

Christ is calling
Find refreshing
At the cross of Living Waters
Lay your life down
On Thee, all come
Rise up in these Living Waters

There’s a river that flows
With mercy and love
Bringing joy to the city of our God
There our hope is secure
Do not fear anymore
Praise the Lord of Living Waters

Spirit moving
Mercy washing
Healing in these living waters
Lead your children to the shore line
Life is in these Living Waters

Chorus

Are you thirsty
Are you empty
Come and drink these Living Waters
Love, forgiveness
Vast and boundless
Christ, He is our Living Water

Chorus

“This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: You can be sure that I will rescue my people from the east and from the west. 8I will bring them home again to live safely in Jerusalem. They will be my people, and I will be faithful and just toward them as their God. 9“This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Be strong and finish the task! ” Zechariah 8:7-9 NLT

When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel! 11And I tell you this, that many Gentiles will come from all over the world—from east and west—and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the feast in the Kingdom of Heaven. 12But many Israelites—those for whom the Kingdom was prepared—will be thrown into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Matthew 8:10-12

Lord of Heaven’s Armies,

Jesus says this when the Centurion comes to ask him to heal his servant. He says Jesus need not detour to his house but just say the word and healing will happen. Jesus is amazed – encouraged? Because he sees into the future. Those who would believe in HIm.His divinity His authority, His compassion.

So often we see glimpses of You Jesus in the Old Testament in Your Father. But then You are One. And just as the exiles came from the East and the West back to Jerusalem You promise us that we also will come from the East and the West (all over the World) to sit in the Kingdom of Heaven in the New Jerusalem (Revelation 21:1-2.) We will meet with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob – I have no idea how that will work. But then we have eternity to meet with every one there . . . Some things are beyond our imagination Father. But they amaze us and encourage us.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen

Then he said to me, “These are the ones who died in great tribulation. They have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb and made them white (Revelation 7:14).

They shall come from the east,
they shall come from the west,
And sit down in the Kingdom of God;
Both the rich and the poor, the despised, the distressed,
They’ll sit down in the Kingdom of God.
And none will ask what they have been
Provided that their robes are clean;
They shall come from the east,
they shall come from the west,
And sit down in the Kingdom of God.

They shall come from the east,
they shall come from the west,
And sit down in the Kingdom of God;
To be met by their Father and welcomed and blessed,
And sit down in the Kingdom of God.
The black, the white, the dark, the fair,
Your colour will not matter there;
They shall come from the east,
they shall come from the west,
And sit down in the Kingdom of God.

They shall come from the east,
they shall come from the west,
And sit down in the Kingdom of God;
Out of great tribulation to triumph and rest
They’ll sit down in the Kingdom of God.
From every tribe and every race,
All men as brothers shall embrace;
They shall come from the east,
they shall come from the west.
And sit down in the Kingdom of God.
