“Darius the Mede decided to divide the kingdom into 120 provinces, and he appointed a high officer to rule over each province. 2The king also chose Daniel and two others as administrators to supervise the high officers and protect the king’s interests. 3Daniel soon proved himself more capable than all the other administrators and high officers. Because of Daniel’s great ability, the king made plans to place him over the entire empire. 4Then the other administrators and high officers began searching for some fault in the way Daniel was handling government affairs, but they couldn’t find anything to criticize or condemn. He was faithful, always responsible, and completely trustworthy. 5So they concluded, “Our only chance of finding grounds for accusing Daniel will be in connection with the rules of his religion.”” Daniel 6:1-5

“Then they told the king, “That man Daniel, one of the captives from Judah, is ignoring you and your law. He still prays to his God three times a day.” 14Hearing this, the king was deeply troubled, and he tried to think of a way to save Daniel. He spent the rest of the day looking for a way to get Daniel out of this predicament. 15In the evening the men went together to the king and said, “Your Majesty, you know that according to the law of the Medes and the Persians, no law that the king signs can be changed.” 16So at last the king gave orders for Daniel to be arrested and thrown into the den of lions. The king said to him, “May your God, whom you serve so faithfully, rescue you.”” Daniel 6:13-16

King of Kings,

How wonderful that they could find no skeletons in Daniels past life. Many of us could not say the same we have mistakes we regret and misspent youth perhaps. Bit it irked them he goodness, his ability. They were jealous and felt threatened. But he did nothing to provoke them that we know of. So they found a way via his faith and the Kings standing. Sounds a bit familiar. The ruling priests could not accept Jesus who did nothing but good.

I thought everything would be alright when I became a Christian and was a little shocked to find we still have an enemy and still suffer persecution and are still mocked for choosing to live clean good lives. But jealousy is human and we still have to ask God’s Holy Spirit to help us not to fall into it. But You God turned the evil into good. It brought a miracle, in the lions den and King Darius to praise You as a true God and favour Daniel’s people.

The opposite of what was hoped for. It is not easy when we come across those who do not like us because we choose Your way. But we also need to remember that You can stand up for Your own Name. We do not always have to rise up and fight. WHat the writer of the proverbs say, say? ” A gentle answer turns away wrath.” (Proverbs 15:1.). It may get hot and feel scary but like Daniel we can go on praying and watch for what You will do.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Through the love of God our Savior, All will be well
Free and changeless is His favor, All is well
Precious is the blood that healed us
Perfect is the grace that sealed us
Strong the hand stretched forth to shield us
All must be well

Though we pass through tribulation, All will be well
Ours is such a full salvation, All is well
Happy still in God confiding
Fruitful if in Christ abiding
Steadfast through the Spirit’s guiding
All must be well

We expect a bright tomorrow; All will be well
Faith can sing through days of sorrow, All is well
On our Father’s love relying
Jesus every need supplying
Yes in living or in dying
All must be well

“King Belshazzar made a great festival for a thousand of his lords, and he was drinking wine in the presence of the thousand. 2Under the influence of the wine, Belshazzar commanded that they bring in the vessels of gold and silver that his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines might drink from them. 3So they brought in the vessels of gold and silver that had been taken out of the temple, the house of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines drank from them. 4They drank the wine and praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone. 5Immediately the fingers of a human hand appeared and began writing on the plaster of the wall of the royal palace, next to the lampstand. The king was watching the hand as it wrote. 6Then the king’s face turned pale, and his thoughts terrified him. His limbs gave way, and his knees knocked together.” Daniel 5:1-6

God of Israel,

There are three times, in the Bible, we are told You, God actually write. For Moses the Ten Commandments. Not suggestions. For the Babylonian Kind Belshazzar’s three words, not of warning but as a final judgement. And lastly Jesus writing in the sand, and we do not know what he actually wrote. But we know what he said, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” (John 8:7b).

For Belshazzar it was too late. The writing was on the wall, and we still use the phrase when there is no going back. Even though he rewarded Daniel for explaining what it meant he was killed later that very night. Three written steps within the Bible, that we too need to make. Firstly, to know what is right and the way You, God want us to live and realise we cannot keep even the first commandment. To realise we have failed and are guilty and found wanting before You God. Secondly to see the judgement of sin is death – but to see Jesus taking our punishment and then not condemning. And thirdly a life with Christ which changes everything. Acknowledging our sin, His forgiveness and our need to forgive others.. That doesn’t even begin to explain evrything we have in Christ. It is amazing beyond comprehension and will never end.

In Jesus name we Pray, Amen.

Sunday 14th September 2025

“After this, the man brought me back around to the east gateway. 2Suddenly, the glory of the God of Israel appeared from the east. The sound of his coming was like the roar of rushing waters, and the whole landscape shone with his glory. 3This vision was just like the others I had seen, first by the Kebar River and then when he came to destroy Jerusalem. I fell face down on the ground. 4And the glory of the Lord came into the Temple through the east gateway. 5Then the Spirit took me up and brought me into the inner courtyard, and the glory of the Lord filled the Temple. 6And I heard someone speaking to me from within the Temple, while the man who had been measuring stood beside me. 7The Lord said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place where I will rest my feet. I will live here forever among the people of Israel. They and their kings will not defile my holy name any longer by their adulterous worship of other gods or by honoring the relics of their kings who have died. 8They put their idol altars right next to mine with only a wall between them and me. They defiled my holy name by such detestable sin, so I consumed them in my anger. 9Now let them stop worshiping other gods and honoring the relics of their kings, and I will live among them forever.

10“Son of man, describe to the people of Israel the Temple I have shown you, so they will be ashamed of all their sins. Let them study its plan, 11and they will be ashamed of what they have done. Describe to them all the specifications of the Temple—including its entrances and exits—and everything else about it. Tell them about its decrees and laws. Write down all these specifications and decrees as they watch so they will be sure to remember and follow them. 12And this is the basic law of the Temple: absolute holiness! The entire top of the mountain where the Temple is built is holy. Yes, this is the basic law of the Temple.”. Ezekiel 43:1-12

Holy Lord God,

This vision surely was an ultimatum to Israel. They could only return to the Temple and dwell with You God, Your presence, if they were holy. No more punishment and forgiveness. No more saving them for the sake of Your Holy name. They were to accept, choose, desire to live in Your presence in absolute holiness. Holiness is not an option it is important to You. I say that and yet I wonder if I have really thought about it? Not the Holier than thou type of holiness. But the sinless life of holiness as Jesus lived. It is what You desire for us.

Problem is, Father God, that life happens and sometimes I don’t even know what is the right thing to do is. Jesus warned us that temptation to sin would surely come (Luke 17:1) The writer to the Hebrews 12:1 warns us about the sin that so easily entaglessays us. So we can only thank You God for Jesus who picks us up restores us to holiness and shows us the error of our ways. Would that He could stop us sinning. But that is not You God. You love Your children who freely choose to do their best and saying sorry and putting things right where they can. You love us, You do not control us. One day there will be no need of greed, hurt, vindictiveness, rejection, disgust, distree, dis. . . anything. Till that day help us to live holy lives in this fallen world with the help of Your Holy Spirit.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
