 “In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Matthew 6:9-13

So He said to them, “When you pray, say:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
4 And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.” Luke 11:2-4 NKJV

Our Father,

Prayer is so complicated and yet so simple. There are many, many books that introduce us to the many aspects of prayer. Silent meditation. Prayer warfare. Intercession. Praying in small groups. Praying the scriptures. I must admit I have read a few and most have encouraged me.

Sometimes when I lead prayers in church I am overwhelmed and have to try to condense all the things we want to join in prayer for – almost to one liners – because worship time is precious and minds wander? And when at home there are still those lists of people, within church and in the community, who we have committed to prayer for. Our world desperately needs prayer, the church needs prayer. And even when I have time to stop and spend time with You I am not sure where to start.

So perhaps the disciples had the same problem or they would not have asked You to teach them how to pray. And the answer is compact, complete and like turning the tap on. Your prayer encompases our lives. It brings us back to centre on You. Then allows Your Holy Spirit to help us pray on with what You place on our hearts and in our minds. Your prayer is not a magic mantra or a regulation. It is like a stepping stone, directing us so we don’t get swept away? May we never take it for granted. Thank You Lord.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen

This for some is a love it or not like it. But I like it, it is scripture.

Our Father who art in Heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy Kingdom come thy will be done on earth as in heaven
Give us to thee our daily bread
And forgive our sins
As we forgive each one of those who sin against us
And lead us not to the time of trial
But deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom the power and the glory

Our Father who art in Heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy Kingdom come thy will be done on earth as in heaven
Give us to thee our daily bread
And forgive our sins
As we forgive each one of those who sin against us
And lead us not to the time of trial
But deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom the power and the glory

Let all the people say amen
in every tribe and tongue
Let every heart’s desire be joined
To see the kingdom come
Let every hope and every dream
Be born in love again
Let all the world sing with one voice
Let the people say amen

Let all the people say amen
in every tribe and tongue
Let every heart’s desire be joined
To see the kingdom come
Let every hope and every dream
Be born in love again
Let all the world sing with one voice
Let the people say amen

Amen Amen Amen . . .

“Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said:
“Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. 21 Blessed are you who hunger now,
for you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. 22 Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you, and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of Man’s sake. 23 Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven, for in like manner their fathers did to the prophets.
24 “But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.25 Woe to you who are full, for you shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep. 26 Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
27 “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. 29 To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. 30 Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. 31 And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.” Luke 6:20-31 NKJV

God of Goodness,

Your disciples are learning as they go as we do. They are being warned as they go as we are. They are being encouraged in their discipleship as we are. Blessings – and woes. Then Jesus turns to those gathered round who can hear to speak. There was a great great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon and many of them had been healed (Luke 6:17-19). He speaks directly in verses 27 to 31, challenging them to treat others as they would like others to treat them. To be king, generous, forgiving and merciful.

Some are following Him but to those looking he still gives the challenge. And what a challenge it is. It would be hard every time something happens, every time we speak, every time we do something if we had to stop and think about being in the other person’s shoes. Then doing the best for them not us! How much easier if we are not just close to Jesus but have His Spirit in us gently teaching leading and correction. But as the writer of Romans says, we can never get it all right (Romans 7:15-20.

So we join together with the writer of Romans to say, “Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (Romans 7:25).

Imagery from Moses Exodus 33:22. Jesus protects us from the wrath of God and delivers us into His love.

A wonderful Saviour is Jesus my Lord,
A wonderful Saviour to me;
He’s hiding my soul in the cleft of the rock,
Where rivers of pleasure I see.

He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock
That shadows a dry, thirsty land;
He hideth my life in the depths of his love
And covers me there with his hand,
And covers me there with his hand.

A wonderful Saviour is Jesus my Lord;
He taketh my burdens away,
He’s holdeth me up, and I shall not be moved;
He giveth me strength as my day.

Chorus

When clothed in his brightness, transported I rise
To meet him in clouds of the sky,
His perfect salvation, his wonderful love,
I’ll shout with the millions on high.

Chorus

Verse not sung.
With numberless blessings each moment he crowns
And fills with his fullness divine;
I sing in my rapture, oh, glory to God
For such a Redeemer is mine.

“Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men. 4 And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying.5 When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”6 And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, 7“Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, “Why do you reason about these things in your hearts? 9 Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’? 10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—He said to the paralytic, 11 “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” 12 Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”” Mark 2:3-12 NKJV

God and Saviour,

Here were four people and a paralysed man, desperate. Desperate enough to wreck a roof, risk a paralysed man falling off the bed if not lowered absolutely level and offending the hosts and Jesus himself.

Jesus always responded to those seeking help. And knew it would challenge and offend some of those gathered to try and catch him out as a fraud. Most who saw the man get up and walk were just so overjoyed that they praised God. Someone’s healing was cause for rejoicing. Especially one who probably had no hope of ever getting better. But the scribes were thinking only God can forgive sins and who is this mere man to say He forgives them!

Jesus again was showing us and then His divinity and the reason he came to earth. To forgive sin, man’s greatest need. He healed the paralysed man to show he had forgiven the sin. There are many sermons that have been preached about the faith of the friends. The faith of the paralysed man to accept his healing. But at the heart of it, when Jesus and the man meet, is the offering of the forgiveness of sin. And the man accepts, gets up and walks out. And no-one had seen or heard anything like it.anything like it.

Today someone in the world will have encountered Jesus and has received forgiveness of their sin. Every time is a miracle and like we have never seen anything like it. We can never stop praising You God for the gift of Your Son. And our own personal miracle.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
