“You say, ‘That’s not true! I haven’t worshiped the images of Baal!’ But how can you say that? Go and look in any valley in the land! Face the awful sins you have done. You are like a restless female camel desperately searching for a mate. 24 You are like a wild donkey, sniffing the wind at mating time. Who can restrain her lust?”” Jeremiah 2:23-24 NLT
Father God,
We never did. That’s what they said to Jeremiah. And when faced with a mistake or accidentally breaking something how tempting is it to say nothing or it wasn’t me. To feigned ignorance of anything. We all know the child that blurts out – it wasn’t me before the question has been asked . . .
It makes me think. We all try our best to be our best most f the time. If we know Jesus we commit ourselves to try to be like him. But what about when no-one is around and when we thing no one is looking and we think God is busy?
God knows the truth and knows even our weaknesses and failures and doubts and fears. And yet He still loves, forgives and gives. And when we struggle and it is sometimes because You are teach us. Not to condemn but to give what we need. We are not like the donkey but like sheep who need and a Good Shepherd. And You are the best Lord.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
Worship Friday 8th August 2023
Oh, to see the dawn
Of the darkest day:
Christ on the road to Calvary.
Tried by sinful men,
Torn and beaten, then
Nailed to a cross of wood.
Oh, to see the pain
Written on Your face
Bearing the awesome weight of sin;
Every bitter thought,
Every evil deed
Crowning Your bloodstained brow.
This, the power of the cross:
Christ became sin for us,
Took the blame, bore the wrath:
We stand forgiven at the cross.
Now the daylight flees,
Now the ground beneath
Quakes as its Maker bows His head.
Curtain torn in two,
Dead are raised to life;
‘Finished!’ the victory cry.
This, the power of the cross:
Christ became sin for us,
Took the blame, bore the wrath:
We stand forgiven at the cross.
Oh, to see my name
Written in the wounds,
For through Your suffering I am free.
Death is crushed to death,
Life is mine to live,
Won through Your selfless love.
This, the power of the cross:
Son of God, slain for us.
What a love! What a cost!
We stand forgiven at the cross.
