“The king of Assyria sent his supreme commander, his chief officer and his field commander with a large army, from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem. They came up to Jerusalem and stopped at the aqueduct of the Upper Pool, on the road to the Washerman’s Field. 18 They called for the king; and Eliakim son of Hilkiah the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary, and Joah son of Asaph the recorder went out to them. 19 The field commander said to them, “Tell Hezekiah: “‘This is what the great king, the king of Assyria, says: On what are you basing this confidence of yours?” 2 Kings 17:17-19 NIV

“Then Eliakim son of Hilkiah, and Shebna and Joah said to the field commander, “Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, since we understand it. Don’t speak to us in Hebrew in the hearing of the people on the wall.” 27 But the commander replied, “Was it only to your master and you that my master sent me to say these things, and not to the people sitting on the wall—who, like you, will have to eat their own excrement and drink their own urine?” 28 Then the commander stood and called out in Hebrew, “Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria! 29 This is what the king says: Do not let Hezekiah deceive you. He cannot deliver you from my hand.” 2 Kings 18:26-29 NIV

Our Great King,

It does not always get better straight away, sometimes it gets worse and words are like arrows. I love the detail of stopping at the Washerman’s field. Very precise and a public place. Officials from Assyria and Judah could converse efficiently in Aramaic. Hebrew was the local language of the Israelites and not as widely employed. But Rabshakeh’s uses it so he could instill fear directly on all all the people

Sometimes so many things go wrong and all at the same time we cope better because we do not try to fix them all ourself and we turn to You. We see the enemies tactics speaking in the situation. You cannot stop this, you cannot win . . .and like Hezekiah we know immediately we cannot but who can . . . You, O Lord our help and deliverer.

Hezekiah’s prayer (2 Kings 19:14-19) puts it all into Your hands, the living God, and asks for rescue so they can give testimony to Your deliverance.” And You do. Isaiah prophesies it in chapter 37:21-35 and we read it in 2 Chronicles 32:20-23.

How many times have we too felt cornered by troubles and found relief and a way through by calling out and trusting in You. Help us not to be blinded by situations but keep our eyes focused on You.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Thursday 31st July 2025
I was reminded of this simple chorus and prayer as I wrote the last line above.

Focus My Eyes On You Oh Lord,
Focus My Eyes On You
To Worship In Spirit And In Truth
Focus My Eyes On You

Turn Round My Life To You, Oh Lord
Turn Round My Life To You
To Know From This Night You’ve Made Me New
Turn Round My Life To You

Fill Up My Heart With Praise, Oh Lord
Fill Up My Heart With Praise
To Speak Of Your Love In Every Place
Fill Up My Heart With Praise

“After all that Hezekiah had so faithfully done, Sennacherib king of Assyria came and invaded Judah. He laid siege to the fortified cities, thinking to conquer them for himself. When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come and that he intended to wage war against Jerusalem, he consulted with his officials and military staff about blocking off the water from the springs outside the city, and they helped him. They gathered a large group of people who blocked all the springs and the stream that flowed through the land. “Why should the kings of Assyria come and find plenty of water?” they said. Then he worked hard repairing all the broken sections of the wall and building towers on it. He built another wall outside that one and reinforced the terraces of the City of David. He also made large numbers of weapons and shields. He appointed military officers over the people and assembled them before him in the square at the city gate and encouraged them with these words: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him. With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said.” 2 Chronicles32:1-8 NIV

God of Encouragement,

Hezekiah. He had a lot of responsibility not just for himself and his close family but for the whole nation of Judah. Jerusalem being at its heart not just as a the capitol city but the place God designated for worship and His presence. Hezekiah saw his problem and faced it two ways. By using common sense and human strategy that God had given him. He prepared the city and an army. He put responsible people in charge of each area. He stopped up the water from flowing out to the enemy and the surrounding springs.

But by trusting in You for the victory and encourage everyone else to do the same. And he reminded them how great You are. Great in power and great in reliability. And the people gained confidence.

It is a good lesson to learn Father. To ask for help but do what we can. Then let You be our God and trust in You. And to use our actions and our mouths to encourage and help others to have confidence in You.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Wednesday 30th July 2025

God is great
Give Him all the praise
Hallelujah, Name above all Names
Fire in His eyes
Healing in His veins
Everywhere, His glory on display

Take a look at those stars
He can name them all
Before His throne, every knee falls
The demons have to run
The angels have to praise
Even the wind and waves obey

Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

Repeat

And even when I ran
He didn’t run away
He came and put death back in its place
Friday on a cross
Broken for my shame
Sunday morning rose up from that grave

Take a look at those scars on His hands and feet
He saved our souls for eternity
Worthy is the Lamb
Glory to the King
Oh, let all the saints and the angels sing

Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

Repeat

Eyes on the Sky
There will be a day
He will come and wipe our tears away
No more fear
No more pain
No more sorrow, sin, or shame

The King is coming back again
A reign of love that will never end
For everything You’ve done
And everything You do
And everything You are I’ll sing to you

My God, You’re an awesome God
You’re great in all You do
I’m made to worship You
My God, You’re an awesome God

What an awesome, awesome God You are
No one like You, none beside You
God, we worship You

Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
You’re worthy, You’re worthy
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God
Forever ever we sing

Repeat chorus . . .

Tuesday 29th July 2025

“Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. 19 You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea. 20 You will be faithful to Jacob, and show love to Abraham, as you pledged on oath to our ancestors in days long ago.” Micah 7: 18-20 NKJV

Lord God Almighty and Father,

These are the last recorded words of Micah and for all the harsh words and judgements he delivers from You, Lord he ends by reminding the people of who You are. And Your faithfulness and compassion.

You want to have mercy, show mercy, tread on our sins and wash them away. You want to keep Your promises to Abraham and Jacob to Your people and all nations. And we have seen that faithfulness in providing a way for other nations to become Your people. Through a day when the separating curtain of the Holy of Holies in the Temple was torn in two (Matthew 27:51). Removed so anyone all can approach You. The day when Jesus came. So anyone seeking You God could meet You.

Some people’s first prayer is, O God help me. Some come angry, in grief and challenging You – if You are real there to help them. Some in such a mess they can’t see a way out, and just cry out. Some come quietly as they realise there is something missing in their life. You hear and we are so grateful You desire, want to, long to, show mercy and be our Father. And today we know we can come through Jesus paying the price for us. Who is a God like You? There is no other. We worship and put our faith in You.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Tuesday 29th July 2025

By faith we see the hand of God
In the light of creation’s grand design
In the lives of those who prove His faithfulness
Who walk by faith and not by sight

By faith our fathers roamed the earth
With the power of His promise in their hearts
Of a holy city built by God’s own hand
A place where peace and justice reign

We will stand as children of the promise
We will fix our eyes on Him our soul’s reward
‘Til the race is finished and the work is done
We’ll walk by faith and not by sight

By faith the prophets saw a day
When the longed-for Messiah would appear
With the pow’r to break the chains of sin and death
And rise triumphant from the grave

By faith the church was called to go
In the pow’r of the Spirit to the lost
To deliver captives and to preach good news
In every corner of the earth

We will stand as children of the promise
We will fix our eyes on Him our soul’s reward
‘Til the race is finished and the work is done
We’ll walk by faith and not by sight

By faith this mountain shall be moved
And the power of the gospel shall prevail
For we know in Christ all things are possible
For all who call upon His name

We will stand as children of the promise
We will fix our eyes on Him our soul’s reward
‘Til the race is finished and the work is done
We’ll walk by faith and not by sight

Oh, we will stand as children of the promise
We will fix our eyes on Him our soul’s reward
‘Til the race is finished and the work is done
We’ll walk by faith and not by sight

We’ll walk by faith and not by sight
