“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” 1 John 4:7-8 NKJ

“For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward. Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; 11 for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.” 2 John 1:7-11 NKJV Paul said

God and Father,

Three little letters by John. Short but full of theology and wisdom. Possibly written by John, the disciple, possibly not. But all by the same person. Again written to counter people trying to introduce other false doctrines. We can see why the church eventually got together to write a sound Biblical creed as a foundation of faith. Even today we still need to adhere to Scripture and as Paul said, “ Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good.” (1 Thessalonians 5:21) And to have bad table manner as it were spit out the rest!

Then the writer makes sure that besides getting the faith and belief foundation correct – love is central. And the definition of love? That God first loved us and gave. He showed that love is sacrificial, he witnessed to what it looked like as a person in Jesus. He showed that nothing can overcome His love for us. I was very broken when I met Christ and he showed me His love before he led me to repentance. Sometimes I need to remember that when I bump into other hurt or stubborn people.

Help me be generous with others as You were generous with me and still are! Loving others is not easy Lord it takes all the fruits of Your spirit and perhaps I understand why the last in the list is self control so it lingers in my mind . . . (Galatians 5:222-23)

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Wanted to learn more scripture by heart this year? There’s still time! I find I can learn it best as a chorus. Before the year ends add this to Your memory. Even if You need to hum it to remember . . .

Beloved, let us love one another,
For love is of God,
And everyone that loveth is born of God
And knoweth God.
He that loveth not knoweth not God,
For God is love.
Beloved, let us love one another.
1 John 4:7 and 8

He became sin, who knew no sin
That we might become His righteousness
He humbled himself and carried the cross
Love so amazing, love so amazing

Jesus Messiah, name above all names
Blessed redeemer, Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners, the ransom from Heaven
Jesus Messiah, Lord of all

His body the bread, his blood the wine
Broken and poured out all for love
The whole earth trembled, and the veil was torn
Love so amazing, love so amazing, yeah

Chorus

ll our hope is in You, all our hope is in You
All the glory to You, God, the light of the world

Chorus

Jesus Messiah, Lord of all
You’re the Lord of all
The Lord of all

“By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But those who fail to develop in this way are short sighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.” 2 Peter 1:3-9 NLT

Father God,

We all know the importance of being reminded of what we have learned, so it is fresh in our minds. Not just for exams or in new employment of so it becomes second nature in finishing tasks. But so we do not loose the abilities we have. What is the saying: if you do not use it you loose it?

You have given us everything we need to live a godly life in coming to know You. You suggest we start with faith (verse5). Then add moral excellence. King James version calls it virtue. Then knowledge, self control, patient endurance, godliness, brotherly affection and topping it all off with love for everyone.

The thing is, I cannot treat it like a list and learn one thing at a time and then add another it is like a recipe which demands equal amounts of each! And it would take me a life time to concentrate on just one! We have no hope of working at these till we are perfect because it will never happen. But with Your Spirits help we will learn lessons so these things grow within us and we are reminded that You pick us up when we fail. In simply doing our best we are not short sighted or blind but pleasing to You.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen

Sunday 28th December 2025
I first heard this last October and used it 16th Oct 2025. It is a good prayer for me as we approach the end of 2025 and before launching into the new. To be willing to still be changed by God . . .

Spirit of the living God
Spirit of the living God
We only want to hear Your voice
We’re hanging on every word

Spirit of the living God
Spirit of the living God
We want to know You more and more
We’re hanging on every word

‘Cause when You speak, and when You move
When You do what only You can do
It changes us
It changes what we see and what we seek
When You come in the room
When You do what only You can do
It changes us
It changes what we see and what we seek

Repeat all three above . . .

When You move, You move all our fears
When You move, You move us to tears
When You move, You move all our fears
When You move, You move us to tears
When You fall, we fall on our knees
When You fall, we fall at Your feet
When You fall, we fall on our knees
When You fall, we fall at Your feet

‘Cause when You speak, when You move
When You do what only You can do
It changes us
It changes what we see and what we seek
When You come in the room
When You do what only You can do
It changes us
It changes what we see and what we seek
You’re changing everything

Saturday 27th December 2025

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.” 1 Peter 1:3-7 NLT

“Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.” 1 Peter 3:8-9 NLT

Father,

You write to us the faithful, in each generation, directly through these letters! Technology, employment, politics may change but life, relationships and suffering remains the same. Peter writes to the scattered church. Living as foreigners across Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia which is modern day turkey I believe. They had it tough.

He builds them up and reminds them of who they are and what they have in Jesus. If we take this personally – as it is for us too – it is amazing. The best Christmas present ever! And to picture ourselves of great worth to God. Sometimes I question how You could know me personally among so many believers and how small I am. Yet here Peter reminds us that each one of us is precious, known and prepared for. With an inheritance yet to come.

So Peter challenges us to live out our hope in unity as we wait together. Regardless of our struggles help those around us and do not be like the rest of the world seeking vengeance and getting our own back! And he ends on a positive note, “In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.” (1 Peter 5:10).

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Saturday 27th December 2025
Drawing on Habakkuk 2:14 and the promise of what is to come, to keep us going. As year succeeds to year . . . a new year is coming.

God is working this purpose out,
as year succeeds to year;
God is working this purpose out,
and the time is drawing near;
nearer and nearer draws the time,
the time that shall surely be:
when the earth shall be filled with the glory of God
as the waters cover the sea.

From utmost east to utmost west,
where human feet have trod,
by the mouth of many messengers
goes forth the voice of God:
“Give ear to me, ye continents,
ye isles, give ear to me,
that the earth may be filled with the glory of God
as the waters cover the sea.”

Let us go forth in the strength of God,
with the banner of Christ unfurled,
that the light of the glorious gospel of truth
may shine throughout the world.
Let us all fight with sorrow and sin
to set the captives free,
that the earth may be filled with the glory of God
as the waters cover the sea.

4 All we can do is nothing worth
unless God blesses the deed.
Vainly we hope for the harvest-tide
till God gives life to the seed.
Yet nearer and nearer draws the time,
the time that shall surely be,
when the earth shall be filled with the glory of God
as the waters cover the sea.
