“Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,” 1 Corinthians 15:3 NKJV

Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come” (Revelation 1:8),

I am not sure when I first believed in You, God. It may have been as a small child hearing the Bible story about the lost sheep. I know I was much older when I consciously asked Your Son, Jesus into my life. At that time I was convinced not only that You were God but that Jesus died for me. I can remember the lovely couple who first clearly told me the gospel and which stayed with me until I was ready to choose.

Paul says he delivered the good news that Christ died for our sin to the Corinthians first. The good news, the gospel. And reading his letter to the church makes it look easy to successfully spread the good news. But they had it tough too. In conversation with a friend, when I offered prayer, they said they did not believe in God but science – and did not need prayer. I too believe in science but that You, God created its order and laws. Then I remembered that Paul did not always have success, he was sometimes opposed (Acts 18:6). And some people like me need time to think it through.

So I do not loose heart (2 Corinthians 4:16), we must not lose heart. Others will listen and hear. And the church is growing. And You know those whose hearts are ready to accept the gift of Your Son. Help us not take offence but go on offering to pray and witnessing to Your goodness.

Thank You for our faith and knowing You,

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Thursday 2nd May 2024
We had this song last Sunday at church. The words are so helpful to worship and refocus.

All I once held dear, built my life upon
All this world reveres and wants to own
All I once thought gain, I have counted loss
Spent and worthless now, compared to this

Knowing You, Jesus, knowing You
There is no greater thing
You’re my all, You’re the best
You’re my joy, my righteousness
And I love You, Lord

Now my heart’s desire is to know You more
To be found in You and known as Yours
To possess by faith what I could not earn
All-surpassing gift of righteousness

Oh to know the power of Your risen life
And to know You in Your sufferings
To become like You in Your death, my Lord
So with You to live and never die

Lyrics: Graham Kendrick

A major Christian conference in the UK asked a number of songwriters to consider writing specific material to accompany the Bible readings at their event the following year. The book of Philippians had been chosen. Graham began seeking inspiration by reading Philippians asking God to draw his attention what might be the seed of a song. He came to the passage where Paul lists his impressive qualifications, and then dramatically sweeps them all aside for the sake of one supreme aim – to know Christ.

He began to experiment with the phrase ‘knowing you’. Having written the chorus he set out to paraphrase the key verses of the scripture text into a singable form. A great challenge because the Bible does not rhymes and there is a danger that in shaping a lyrical form something is lost.

Eventually, and with some input from one of his church leaders, some private ‘road testing at his church, the song was finished. Many people have learned this song without realising where it is derived from and have commented to Graham, “I found your song in the bible!”.

“My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?” John 14:2 NIV

Father God,

Thanks to Jesus and His resurrection, we little clay jars (2 Corinthians 4:7), are assured our place in Heaven. He tells the disciples He is going to prepare it for them. So that when they witnessed his death, they will remember it is not the end, He is Lord of their future. He would never leave them. How very human that shortly after , Jesus said this James and John had an ambition. They wanted to know if they could sit next to him when he came into His Kingdom. Matthew says it was their mother who asked! (Matthew 20:21)!

They wanted a front seat. How brazen we think. But others say You have not because You asked not! Some of us prefer to stand at the back and wait and see? Some do not look forward to heaven being all worship all the time? It says in Revelation the living creatures were constantly saying “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.” And the elders were joining in with “You are worthy . . . ” (Revelation 4:8-11). Saying, interestingly, not singing? Then we are told it was silent in heaven for half and hour (Revelation 8:1). So silence was unusual?

Sometimes a hymn really moves us and sometimes we just sing. And there are those times when we fall silent and are aware of Your presence. Who knows what heaven will be like? But we know it will be good because You have prepared it and know what we need and what is good. It will be beyond our hopes, better than our expectations and will be home.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Wednesday 1st May 2024
I’ll fly away to a land where joy shall never end – because Jesus will be there.

Some glad morning when this life is o’er,
I’ll fly away;
To a home on God’s celestial shore,
I’ll fly away (I’ll fly away).

I’ll fly away, Oh Glory
I’ll fly away; (in the morning)
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by,
I’ll fly away (I’ll fly away).

When the shadows of this life have gone,
I’ll fly away;
Like a bird from prison bars has flown,
I’ll fly away (I’ll fly away)

Oh how glad and happy when we meet,
I’ll fly away;
No more cold iron shackles on my feet,
I’ll fly away (I’ll fly away)

Just a few more weary days and then,
I’ll fly away;
To a land where joy shall never end,
I’ll fly away (I’ll fly away)

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” 2 Corinthians 4:7 NIV

God of power,

Yesterdays reading about how You, God almighty, chose us. The foolish, yes the foolish to shame the wise and the weak to shame the strong (1 Corinthians 1:27,28). It reminded me of this little verse in 2 Corinthians. How small and vulnerable we are and yet how strong and victorious we can be in Jesus, in You God. These little earthly jars of clay, vulnerable and breakable, You choose to shine in and through with divine glory. You make us strong when we are weak, able when we are not able and wise in Your wisdom when we need help. And, secure in the knowledge of Your indwelling eternal light and love.

Today, we just want to stop and be filled again with wonder. Wonder at Your creation. Wonder that You created man and wonder that we can have Jesus living in us, with us and granting us the riches of His grace. We want to enjoy Your presence and give our lives afresh to You.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Tuesday 30th April 2024

Beautiful Lord, wonderful Savior
I know for sure all of my days are held in Your hand
And crafted into Your perfect plan

You gently called me into Your presence
Guiding me by Your Holy Spirit
Teach me dear Lord, to live all of my life
Through Your eyes
And I’m captured by Your Holy calling
Set me apart, I know You’re drawing me to Yourself
Lead me Lord, I pray

Take me and mould me, use me, fill me
I give my life to the Potter’s hand
Call me, You guide me, lead me, walk beside me
I give my life to the Potter’s hand

You gently call me into Your presence
Guiding me by Your Holy Spirit
Teach me dear Lord, to live all of my life
Through Your eyes
And I’m captured by Your Holy calling
Set me apart, I know You’re drawing me to Yourself
Lead me Lord, I pray

Take me and mould me, use me, fill me
I give my life to the Potter’s hand
Call me, You guide me, lead me, walk beside me
I give my life to the Potter’s hand
