“I will lift up my eyes to the hills—from whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul.
The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.” Psalm 121
NKJV

Lord of forevermore,

Sunday and a familiar Psalm to comfort and cheer. Its good to have things that do not change. Everything else around us seems to be. Again in our generation there are wars and rumours of wars. We are starkly reminded we are moving nearer to the second coming of Your Son. Though there are many more prophesies to be fulfilled before that date, we need to keep our faith lamps trimmed.

The Psalmist, was looking forward, and up the hill in Jerusalem to the Temple. Not to celebrate the Temple, or the rituals, or in attending with others but to worship and celebrate You, God. The Psalmist says six times in eight verses, You, God are the only One who keeps and preserves. You will not allow our foot to be moved – we will stand. Psalmist was putting aside all his worries and concerns to worship and be encouraged. They would still be there when he came back.

Today, we can and worship and remember You are on the throne. You are a faithful God. You will not allow our foot to be moved. If we stand preserved in You. Not pickled and sour, but beautiful in Christ. Even if our world is a mess.

In Jesus name we give thanks, Amen.

God who keeps his promises,

For our family and friends. Those we know have their own battles of health.
For our church, Ministers, lay leaders, members. Call those who do not know You to come, hear.
For the royal family. For peace of mind, healing and family support.
For our Parliament. Regardless of politics a desire to live good and do their honest best.
For our local town or city. For town centres to flourish and new business to prosper.
For our local GP’s and those in training.
For medical breakthroughs, scientific discoveries and cures.
For those undergoing dialysis and blood cleansing literally. For donors and their families.
For those suffering depression to lift their eyes and find You..
For those at odds with each other, even family, a way forward to peace.
For Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan, Myanmar, places of conflict. End war. Power to drive change to peace.
For those things in the news which need Your touch.
For us a Sunday to look anf know You with us even in the valleys. And to worship wherever we are.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Sunday 14th April 2024
Defiant faith . . . we shall stand (from the CD Shine Jesus Shine)

We shall stand
With our feet on the Rock
Whatever men may say
We’ll lift your name up high
And we shall walk
Through the darkest night
Setting our faces like flint
We’ll walk into the light

Lord, you have chosen me
For fruitfulness
To be transformed into your likeness
I’m gonna fight on through
’til I see you face to face

Chorus

Lord, as your witnesses
You’ve appointed us
And with your Holy Spirit
Anointed us
And so I’ll fight on through
’til I see You face to face

Chorus

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

Dear Lord and Father of Mankind,

Forgive our foolish ways. Forgive my foolish ways. Confession is sometimes the hardest thing. Owning up to something large or even small. But there is no getting round it to know You. And in the light of Easter I remember the consequences of my selfishness and sin. We sorrow over what we caused Jesus to go through but joy at knowing Your gift of forgiveness.

The water I drink may come from reservoirs but I have seen pictures of it at a macrobiotic level . . . no wonder it has to go through cleaning to be safe to drink. But it is not absolutely pure. Even bottled water has natural elements (minerals?) in it. But Your purity is crystal clear. Clearer than the purest water, more transparent than the most expensive polished diamond. And that is how You see Your Son Jesus, pure and clear. And You see me, us through His pure holiness. Sparklingly pure. Absolutely no speck of sin, guilt or shame. Help me to keep on confessing and being cleansed, to shine the light of Your love on those around me.

Dear Lord and Father,

For our family and friends. For good relationships, health and blessings.
For our church, Ministers and lay leaders, for opportunities to share the love of Jesus.
For the royal family. For peace of mind, healing and family support.
For our Parliament. Regardless of politics give a desire to be good and do their honest best.
For our local town or city. For town centres to flourish and new business to prosper.
For our hospitals, police and all those who work to keep out society functioning.
For those seeking medical breakthroughs, scientific discoveries, cures.
Those who are undergoing dialysis and blood cleansing literally. For donors and their families.
For those seeking You to make decisions, to find hope and a way forward. Send answers and help.
For our justice system, our police force in a week of capturing murderers recent and of the past.
For the families and friends of the victims.
For Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan, Myanmar, places of conflict. End war. We seek Your power to change.
For us a good week-end, freedom from worry and the blessing of good friendship, food and sleep.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Tim Hughes wrote the song in 1999 as a response to how he felt after reading Philippians 2. About Christ’s humility willingly leaving His throne in heaven, coming to earth as a man, and sacrificing Himself on the cross – all because of His love for us. He picked up his guitar and, as he sang, the words flowed out, but he was not satisfied with the chorus. It took about six months to finish it. He was still not confident in the chorus. He played this song at his home church (Soul Survivor), and it became widely known.

Light of the world
You stepped down into darkness
Opened my eyes, let me see
Beauty that made this heart adore You
Hope of a life spent with You

Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that You’re my God
You’re altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me

King of all days
Oh, so highly exalted
Glorious in heaven above
Humbly You came to the earth You created
All for love’s sake became poor

Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that You’re my God
You’re altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me

I’ll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that cross
I’ll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that cross

I’ll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that cross
I’ll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that cross

Friday 12th April 2024

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Luke 11:9-10 NIV

God who gives,

We praise You for this brand new day, today. Help us to live in today. You do not make us relive yesterday and You tell us not to worry about tomorrow.

Seek and You will find, Your Word says. How true. Well yes, sometimes I need to pray to ask for help finding my keys or my phone or a £1 coin for the shopping trolley! But I can at times find something to moan about and the sun goes in. When I find something to be thankful for and the world seems brighter. We need to remember to seek You first and wait upon You. And to seek lasting things.

When we seek You we find You. We can seek enlightenment and find the certainties of our faith. Not ‘hope so’ or ‘maybe’. Jesus did it. Set us free. You, Lord, want us to seek Your first and then You can help us find what is best for us. If we seek You in faith You promise to reward us (Hebrews 11:6). Keep us seeking and finding Your way and the gifts of Your grace and mercy..

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

God who gives,

For our family and friends. We seek their best, and knock at Your throne room for their provision.
For our church, Ministers and lay leaders, for the church to grow in numbers and faith.
For the royal family. We seek You first for healing, and use the doctors for their good.
For our Parliament. Regardless of politics give a desire to be good and do their honest best.
For our local town or city. For town centres to flourish and new business to prosper.
For our hospitals, police and all those who work to keep out society functioning safely.
For those seeking medical breakthroughs, scientific discoveries, inspiration and answers.
For those seeking You to make decisions, hope and a way forward. Send answers and help.
For those at odds with each other, even family, a way forward to seek peace.
For Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan, Myanmar, places of conflict. End war. We seek Your power for peace.
For us a good day, to work or rest or enjoy. A day to seek and find contentment.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Nystrom, a musician and songwriter, born was 1957 in Seattle, Washington, was taking part in a fast and focusing intently on time with the Lord. On day 19 of his fast, he sat down at a piano and started playing chords in no specific order. He noticed a Bible nearby open at Psalm 42. Without much thought, he sang the first words of the Psalm to the melody he was playing. Soon he had written the first verse and the chorus. Within minutes, the song was complete. He intended to keep the song to himself – but a friend asked permission to play it for others.

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after You
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship You

You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship You

You’re my friend And You are my brother
Even though You are a King
I love You more than any other
So much more than anything

I want You more than gold or silver
Only You can satisfy
You alone are the real joy-giver
And the apple of my eye

Lyrics: Martin Nystrom
