Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. 47 When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death. 48 “Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never believe.” 49 The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” 50 “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed.” John 4:46-50 NIV

God of wonders,

Cana I believe is only a few miles from Nazareth where Jesus grew up. Where he attended a wedding, maybe it was a Joseph or Mary family do? And they may still have be talking about how he changed water to wine. A miracle he tried to keep quiet and only did at his mothers request.

No phones then, but the royal official heard the gossip that Jesus was in Cana. The miracle man. So he sought Jesus out. And Jesus was moved to do something for this man’s child. But He did not go with the official. He told him to go back home and trust hat his child was healed. The man literally took Jesus at His word.

I ask myself if I could have taken Jesus at His word and departed? Or would I have tried to persuade Him to still come with me? Do we take You at Your Word.

We cannot exactly explain to others how we know You are with us all the time but we know You are. We cannot explain how sometimes the Bible seems to come alive and speak to our situation, but it does. We cannot prove those times when we have known Your clear direction and assurance, and it has proved to be right. Help us to listen and take You at Your word. It may not always be supernatural miracles, flashes of lightening but it will be what we need, when we need it. We will trust in You.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Psalm 23 and our response to it in the chorus . . .

The Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not want;
He makes me lie in pastures green.
He leads me by the still, still waters,
His goodness restores my soul.

And I will trust in You alone,
And I will trust in You alone,
For Your endless mercy follows me,
Your goodness will lead me home.

He guides my ways in righteousness,
And He anoints my head with oil,
And my cup, it overflows with joy,
I feast on His pure delights.

And though I walk the darkest path,
I will not fear the evil one,
For You are with me, and Your rod and staff
Are the comfort I need to know.

22 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear.” Luke 12:22 NET

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honourable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:8 NLT

Lord of the Sabbath,

Tuesday and sometimes I get the midweek mither Lord a day early! Stuff done an stuff not yet done bothers me and I become mithered with soring and to do’s and forget today. I wonder how many others have the same bothers?

Retirement now is often very busy for those active. Parenthood is often a rush to get from work to school and home and chores. Ten there are all the experts telling us how to reprioritising and de clutter our homes. My cupboards are back to the mess they were before I had all that time in lockdown and sorted them It didn’t last long. They may even be worse! How does all that dust get in closed draws!

Today help me to keep my heart and soul decluttered and ordered by You. Help me just to do what I can when I can. Help me pass on frustration from listening to the news of wars, conflicts and trouble. Help us unburden our irrational fears and present worries to you, Lord. Remind us sin is rampant but You are still Lord of all. Holy Spirit come and bring rest to our minds and hearts.

Remind us of the many blessings we have received over the years (Ephesians 1:3). . The millions of undeserved moments of joy we have known and often forgotten. Restore us. Keep our hearts and minds in the lavish love, wisdom and insight of Jesus Christ. Be the air we breathe, and may your Holy presence live in us.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

This is the air I breathe
This is the air I breathe
Your holy presence living in me

This is my daily bread
This is my daily bread

And I I’m desperate for you

“We are traveling together to guard against any criticism for the way we are handling this generous gift. 21 We are careful to be honourable before the Lord, but we also want everyone else to see that we are honourable. 22 We are also sending with them another of our brothers who has proven himself many times and has shown on many occasions how eager he is.”
2 Corinthians 8:20-22 NLT

Lord God,

Paul’s second letter to the church in Corinth. Letters. I used to love getting letters. I find emails a chore and sometimes I just don’t want the phone to ring! I miss settling down with a cup of tea and writing a reply and posting a letter to a friend. And I love Paul’s letters in the Bible because they could be written to us today. Thank You that Your word is full of people just like us.

How wise it was of Paul to not just do things properly but to ensure others saw that they did. To do things openly and above reproach and use people of integrity. Integrity: the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. Not someone who just lectures on principles or judges others but quietly lives them out. It is so easy Lord to point at others weaknesses rather than getting on with being a good example!

Help us live open lives, nothing hidden. To be the same when we are behind closed doors as we are in public. As the old saying, not just ‘go to meeting Christians’ but living Your life – with Your help.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Just enjoy this and let it wash over You. Best beauty treatment ever.

We are called to seek the lost
To show the way to Him.
Put aside your doubts
your inmost fears
and just let His work begin.

So let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me,
All his wonderful passion and purity,
O thou Spirit divine, all my nature refine,
Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me.

Go with Jesus as you are.
Go with your joy and pain.
When we offer in sincerity
It brings glory to His name.

So let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me,
All his wonderful passion and purity,
O thou Spirit divine, all my nature refine,
Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me.

I am called in Your name.
So I lift my hands and sing!
Repeat . . .

Chorus . . . Let the beauty of Jesus

Lyrics: Nat and John Hanchett
