“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28 You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.” John 14:26-28 NKJV

Father God,

Peace and quiet? Sometimes we equate the two together, especially if we have been in the company of small children. But quiet does not always bring peace. Peace? For me its like when that knot in my stomach goes, I do something I have worried about or I talk to someone about my fears. Or when I fall sleep after waking in the night and all those unhelpful thoughts are silenced! Here in John’s Gospel, You show us what we can exchange for those things which take away our peace of mind. Your presence can remove them, chase them away and show them up to be lies and half lies.

Thank You for showing us an aerial view beyond the present of Your eternal future. Your Son coming back to put everything right one day. Dealing finally and completely with sin and evil and creating a new heaven and earth. Thank You that we have You. There is none greater, wiser, more merciful or kinder than You. We will never be in a position where we cannot ask for help.

Thank You that life is not like and exam where we have to know everything, all the time and do more than enough to get over the pass mark. You are able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine through Your power within us (Ephesians 3:20). Your peace God, does not have to be earned or worked at through hours of meditation, it is a gift. The enemy would like to scare it out of us, squash it with his darkness. But You are Lord of all.

Keep us trusting Your Holy Spirit, knowing Your Word and turning away from the enemies dark thoughts. Help us to turn to You for the peace that passes all understanding when unsettling or worrying situations arise.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Monday 26th February 2024

Let your living water flow over my soul
Let your holy spirit come and take control
Of every situation that has troubled my mind
All my cares and burdens onto you I roll

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
Father, Father, Father
Spirit, Spirit, Spirit

Come now Holy Spirit and take control
Hold me in your loving arms and make me whole
Wipe away all doubt and fear and take my pride
Draw me to your love and keep me by your side

Give your life to Jesus, let Him fill your soul
Let Him take you in His arms and make you whole
As you give your life to Him, He’ll set you free
You will live and reign with Him eternally

Let your living water flow over my soul
Let your Holy spirit come and take control
Of every situation that has troubled my mind
All my cares and burdens onto you I roll

“He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12 NKJV

God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Jesus,

But Jesus was not just like anyone else, not a historical figure, not an ancestor or someone to read stories about. He was Emmanuel, You, God with us. And he came to bring us life and it cost Him His own.

Today with the state of the world and the news, we turn to You and remember that You did not give death. You give us life. Death came through mans disobedience. Murder, death, hate, hurt and turmoil is caused by man’s sin. But You give us a clear choice. To choose You and life. We choose Christ. We do not understand why others choose every thing else but You. We are shocked at the evil in men and women’s hearts. But where there is faith, You are there. Where there is hope, You are there. Where there is injustice, You are there.

We cannot escape the outcome of sin here. Good people still die, but we know that You are ultimately, finally in control. Prayer can change things. We know that You will take us home and one day will return and bring an end to man’s sinful behaviour. An end to all sin and pain. Meanwhile we ask that You would help us to have the life of Jesus, Your abundant life in us, upholding us, helping us to see You in all our day.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he gave us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, that is, into an inheritance imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. It is reserved in heaven for you, who by God’s power are protected through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. ”
1 Peter 1:3-5 NET

God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Some of us are not naturally joyful all the time or even some of the time. We are not sad or depressed just not overtly joyful. And there are times when someone else’s joy can be irritating or even inappropriate. Yet here is Peter writing to people going through terrible trials starting off with a joyful burst of praise! Because he knows from personal experience that it is important never to forget and stand in the truth that Jesus is the source of our hope and joy and the answer to our questions.

He gives us, in three verses, a wide angle and aerial view of what You, God have done for us and then a close up view of what You provides. A living hope. Rounding off with the promised future.

Nearly everything we do is motivated by some hope somewhere down the line. Big hopes, small or insignificant hopes. We hope that we will be successful, that the preacher won’t go on too long. We hope the best for our children, grandchildren and friends. We hope we can think of something for diner. We hope we will remember what we need to do today! Hope is a part of being human. But, nothing can give us a living hope but You.

It is a living sure hope (1:3), an imperishable eternal hope (1:4) and a protected enduring hope (1:5). We may be disappointed in this life but we have a living , sure, imperishable, and enduring hope of our inheritance in Christ now and throughout eternity. Keep that living hope burning alive and bright in our hearts every day, come what may.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Perhaps one to listen to and enjoy the words. Or just read with thanksgiving. Their are comments about it by the author underneath the lyrics.

How great the chasm that lay between us
How high the mountain I could not climb
In desperation, I turned to heaven
And spoke your name into the night
Then through the darkness
Your loving kindness
Tore through the shadows of my soul
The work is finished, the end is written
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Who could imagine so great a mercy?
What heart could fathom such boundless grace?
The God of ages stepped down from glory
To wear my sin and bear my shame
The cross has spoken, I am forgiven
The king of kings calls me His own
Beautiful saviour, I’m yours forever
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There’s salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope
(repeat)

Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the roaring lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
(Repeat)
Jesus Yours is the victory

Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There’s salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope
(Repeat)

Phil Wickham, the author of this song, spoke about what it meant to him.
He said, “God has rescued us from a place that we could never have rescued ourselves. Our future was death, but Jesus came in and brought life – a living hope – into our souls and into our lives. I love singing the truth of ‘Living Hope,’ and this song has already become an anthem at both of the churches where we lead worship. I hope anybody who gets to hear it not only sings along, but their hearts’ cling to it as well.”
