“When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:13-14 NKJV

God of forgiveness and healing,

What a promise, what a gift that keeps on giving. These verses are so often called upon in prayer meetings. King Solomon had finished the Temple, there had been 7 days of celebrating and then Your overwhelming glory came and filled the Temple! Your people fell on their faces in worship. But – it was not till the night after, that the Lord came to Solomon quietly and answered their prayers with this promise. It is not always in the big meetings, and celebrations that You speak to us. Often it is the moments we are alone and receptive to Your voice. Help us hear.

What a promise, forgiveness of sin and healing for the land. What do You tell them and us to do? Come together as God’s people, humble ourselves, turn away from wicked ways and seek Your face. Romans 11:17 reminds us that in Christ we have been grafted into Your olive tree and share in its nourishing sap. We too can look to this promise of God to Israel.

Today, how we need to come humbly, turning from sin and praying for our nation and world. It is our responsibility. To pray for our government, Kings, our churches (the people), our sin sick society. One thing we know, one thing we are sure of You answer prayer. Heal our nation one heart at a time.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

God of forgiveness and healing,

For our family, friends, neighbours, church fellowship. Meet their many needs today and grant them peace of mind.
For Kings, rulers and Governments.
For the HRH King Charles and HRH Duchess of Cambridge, Kate’s recovery back to full health and strength.
For our government, each person to know the right thing to do and unity and respect.
For nations and their rulers and governments to have a desire to make peace, and make it happen.
For Ukraine and Gaza and a permanent peace for all. Myanmar, North Korea and Syria.
For those who work away often unseen making society safer and pleasant. Nurses, dustbin men, electrician’s, reservoir keepers, police, bakers, farmers . . .
For those who do not have what they need to live through no fault of their own. The organisations that work out of compassion to provide food, medical care and support to become self sufficient.
For refugees and children who live in continual danger and need. Send support and supplies.
For us, to be blessed seeing friends, speaking to family, and knowing You are looking upon us with love.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Perhaps just listen . . . then sing with the second more familiar one . . .

If my people who are called by My name
will humble themselves, humble themselves,
and pray

If my people who are called by My name
will humble themselves, humble themselves,
and pray

and seek My face,
and seek my face,
and turn from their wicked ways,
then I will hear from heaven,
and will forgive their sin
and will heal their land.

“So he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.” Hebrews 7:25

“And the others who became priests were numerous, because death prevented them from continuing in office,24 but he holds his priesthood permanently since he lives forever. 25 So he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. 26 For it is indeed fitting for us to have such a high priest: holy, innocent, undefiled, separate from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. 27 He has no need to do every day what those priests do, to offer sacrifices first for their own sins and then for the sins of the people, since he did this in offering himself once for all. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men subject to weakness, but the word of solemn affirmation that came after the law appoints a son made perfect forever.” Hebrews 7:23-28

Father God,

Yesterday we rejoiced that You are able to keep that which we’ve committed to You, until we are with You forever. It reminded me of this verse in Hebrews – yes Hebrews again! You do not just save – but save completely. We are not half forgiven, half saved. There is no small print which discounts some of our sin!

There were endless sacrifices for sin before Jesus. For many types of sins. Sins of omission, sins of commission (wilfully not doing what is right and wilfully doing what is wrong). Sins against You, God, sins against our fellow man, harm accidentally done, sinful speech, wrongful testimony . . . the list is endless and then there are the thoughts that no-one else knows about but You, Lord. It must have been constant sacrifice and then there were holy days . . .

It is both an amazing and yet terrible picture of Jesus our one perfect sacrifice on the cross. Now He continually, as we walk in Him, intercedes for us, continually forgives and cleanses us. And Your Holy Spirit seeks to guide us, directs our paths and teach us how to live good. So we do not wilfully abuse His, Your gift of salvation and Holiness. Not just after communion, not just when we stop and pray but ongoing moment by moment as we walk with You. Our perfect, permanent High Priest.

Thank You. Help us to never take Your gift of salvation for granted but rejoice in Your everlasting love.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Friday 2nd February 2024
Amazing, every minute of every day I and you are forgiven.

I’m forgiven
because you were forsaken
and I’m accepted
you were condemned
I’m alive and well
your spirit is within me
because you died and rose again

Repeat chorus . . .

Amazing love how can can it be
that you my king would die for me
amazing love I know its true
that it’s my joy to honour you
in all I do, I honor you

You are my King
Jesus You are my King. . .

“For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.” 2 Timothy 1:12 NKJ

God,

Yesterday what we believe we could read in words, our creed. This Bible verse sprung to mind and the hymn whose chorus perfectly reflects it. Not for theorising, debating or arguing over. But for faith to believe. And no-one said it would be easy belonging to You. Paul certainly warned us there would be some challenges and even suffering. Paul certainly suffered for the gospel. But his sure foundation was faith in Jesus Christ and therefore You, Father.

Simon Peter went to the tomb and believed – it was empty (John 20:1-10)! When Jesus appeared and stood among them in the upper chamber, Simon believed he had risen from the dead. He knew for certain that Jesus was able to do all He had promised.

I too now know whom I have believed and know that Jesus, and You, God, are able to keep me, indeed those who believe, till You come again or take us home. We have crossed over the line to believe in You, to know You, it has changed our life.

Thank You for those awesome moments when You have made us aware of Your presence. Or when someone has prayed for us and we have felt Your touch. Or we have become aware of Your Spirit and there has been light in the darkness. Truth to counter doubts and lies. You have held and hold us and we know You are able to keep us, eternally Yours. Thank You.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

God who is able,

For our family, friends, neighbours, church fellowship. Those people who make our lives better. Bless them and give them faith to see You, Know You and believe. Answer their prayers needs.
For Kings, rulers and Governments.
For the HRH King Charles recovery and HRH Duchess of Cambridge, Kate’s recovery back to full health and strength.
For our government and its decisions and possible changes through a general election. To all be for good.
For the sword of Your spirit to remove the knives from the hands of the angry and murderous.
For nations and their rulers and governments to have a desire to make peace, and make it happen.
For Ukraine and Gaza and a permanent peace for all.
For our society to look after and care for the weak, the sick and those with special needs. To continue to be a nation which gives where there is human need.
For those affected by the wind, the rain, whatever weather and our farmers.
For us, touch us again, give us a good day, bless our going out and our staying in and give us opportunity to do good.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

I may not know much but I know Jesus. It makes all the difference in the world. It also gives the enemy no room to plant doubt.

I know not why God’s wondrous grace
To me hath been made known;
Nor why, unworthy, as I am
He claimed me for His own.

But I know whom I’ve believed;
and am persuaded that He is able
To keep that which I’ve committed

Unto Him against that day.

I know not how this saving faith
To me He did impart;
Nor how believing in His word
Wrought peace within my heart.

I know not how the Spirit moves,
Convincing men of sin;
Revealing Jesus through the word,
Creating faith in Him.

I know not what of good or ill
May be reserved for me,
Of weary ways or golden days
Before His face I see.

I know not when my Lord may come,
I know not how, or where
If I should pass the vale of death,
Or meet Him in the air.

Lyrics: D.W. Whittle (1840-1901)
