On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”” John 2:1-5 NKJV

Almighty and Everlasting God,

John gives us this glimpse into Jesus normal life before He completely stepped away from home to begin his ministry. Many have used this occasion to show You approve of wine drinking, and weddings. But for me it speaks about Your humanity and divinity. Your sense of family and service.

On the cusp of ministry as the Son of God you attend a wedding. A happy event but a little embarrassing because the hospitality drink had run out. No pub cellar to come to the rescue or caterers! And his mother speaks to Him as if she knows He can sort it! How did she know?

Jesus is not sure this is time for a miracle – yet – he does as His earthly mother asks. His humanity, answering His mothers request. His divinity, providing not just more wedding wine – but a great vintage wine. ( John 2:10).

Thank You that the more we read Your Word the more we see You in Your Son. And we cannot but give thanks that You came among us, as one of us and touched us with the divine. We too are changed, not from water to the best wine but from sinners to saints (one of God’s chosen and forgiven children). And You are saving the best till last, for when we see You face to face.

In Jesus name we pray.

Worship Friday 28th June 2024
A song never far from my mind. The first verse addresses Jesus. Verses 2 and 3 are sung to ourselves and each other. Then Verse 4 is a crescendo, a peon of praise and worship to the Son of God, Son of man. And I love all the beautiful faces and fidgeting in the video.!

Fairest Lord Jesus,
ruler of all nature,
O thou of God and man the Son,
Thee will I cherish,
Thee will I honor,
thou, my soul’s glory, joy, and crown.

Fair are the meadows,
fairer still the woodlands,
robed in the blooming garb of spring:
Jesus is fairer,
Jesus is purer
who makes the woeful heart to sing.

Fair is the sunshine,
fairer still the moonlight,
and all the twinkling starry host:
Jesus shines brighter,
Jesus shines purer
than all the angels heaven can boast.

Beautiful Savior!
Lord of all the nations!
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor,
praise, adoration,
now and forevermore be thine.

“The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.” Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!” Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”” John 1:43-49 NKJV

Emmanuel, God with us,

Nathanael had to meet Jesus for himself, it was not enough to just hear about Him from Philip. He was surprised, even shocked that Jesus already knew him, when they met. But You know each one of us.

We are the ones that have turned away from You, and need to meet Jesus for ourselves to be able to approach You. I remember as a new Christian hearing the phrase ‘there are only children in the Kingdom of heaven, no grandchildren’. You cannot be a Christian by having Christian parents, or being taken to church, it is a personal decision to know You and be welcomed into Your family.

And like Nathaniel we find a welcome. Jesus did not remind Nathaniel of all his past mistakes – he commended him for being open and honest. How like our Saviour. He does deal with our sin and teach us how to live holy lives, but always encourages us. Some of us heard negative voices as we were growing up (eg you will never be any good), and do not always think good of ourselves. Help us hear Your encouragement clearly each and every day.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen

Worship Thursday 27th June 2024

It’s all about You, Jesus
And all this is for You
For Your glory and your fame
It’s not about me
As if You should do things my way
You alone are God
And I surrender to your ways

Jesus, lover of my soul
All consuming fire is in Your gaze
Jesus, I want you to know
I will follow you all my days
For no one else in history is like you
And history itself belongs to you
Alpha and Omega, You have loved me
And I will share eternity with You

“Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. 36 And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!” 37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 38 Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to Him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), “where are You staying?” 39 He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour).John 1:35-39 NKJV

Heavenly Father,

These two disciples were pointed to Jesus by John. John the Baptist, who You called to prepare the way for Jesus. When John’s two disciples heard Jesus speak they followed Him and not John. John was a good sign post. He held everything lightly for You, he was not building his own kingdom.. I hope I can be a clear sign post for You Father.

These are the first questions and answers of Jesus as told by John at the beginning of his gospel. And it strikes me heavenly Father they are important. They ask an open question and offer a very important invitation. What do You seek? Come and see!

What do we seek, what do we want from You and are we willing to come to You and see all You have to show us? Are we seeking for ourselves or for the truth? To serve You out of love and gratitude or because we think we should? Are we looking for what You can do for us? Do we take You for granted sometimes? Help us to keep the main thing the main thing. You died and rose again for us. You are the way the truth and our life.

Come and see? Do we always come to You first, to see what is best when we have decisions to make, troubles or life is just tough? The disciples remained with Jesus. Help us to come to You first always and see You at work in our lives. And remain.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Not sure where I remember this from and couldn’t find anything about its writers. But it is a beautiful, simple love song to the Lord.

Living under the shadow of His wings
We find security
Standing in His presence we will bring
Our worship, worship, worship to the King

Bowed in adoration at His feet
We dwell in harmony
Voices joined together that repeat
Worthy, worthy, worthy is the Lamb

Heart to heart embracing in His love
Reveals His purity
Soaring in His Spirit like a dove
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord

Lyrics: David Hadden, Bob Silvester
