“Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; And hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. Let my teaching drop as the rain, My speech distill as the dew, As raindrops on the tender herb, And as showers on the grass. For I proclaim the name of the Lord: Ascribe greatness to our God.
He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.

“They have corrupted themselves; They are not His children, Because of their blemish: A perverse and crooked generation. Do you thus deal with the Lord, O foolish and unwise people?
Is He not your Father, who bought you? Has He not made you and established you?

Remember the days of old, Consider the years of many generations. Ask your father, and he will show you; Your elders, and they will tell you: When the Most High divided their inheritance to the nations, When He separated the sons of Adam, He set the boundaries of the peoples According to the number of the children of Israel. For the Lord’s portion is His people; Jacob is the place of His inheritance.

10 “He found him in a desert land And in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye. 11 As an eagle stirs up its nest, Hovers over its young, Spreading out its wings, taking them up, Carrying them on its wings, So the Lord alone led him, And there was no foreign god with him.” Deuteronomy 32:1-12 NKJV

Lord God,

Moses spoke this song to the children of Israel at the end of his life. I smile because it is a long song and nowhere in scripture is it mentioned that Moses sang well or sang at all. So I will read it aloud too as perhaps it was meant to be spoken. Joshua is to be their next leader but Moses wanted to remind them of their parents history. A history Moses did not want them to repeat. They are the ones to go into the promised land. And he calls them the apple of Your eye Lord.

Not a reminder of the forbidden fruit (which we do not know was an apple!) from the tree of knowledge in the garden of Eden. But perhaps a reminder of the fruit of the tree of life also in that same garden? (Genesis 2:9).

Moses wants then to learn from their history. This is only a quarter of the song. A clear lesson is that You God ares their Rock. they must not even consider a foreign god. Small ‘g’ because You are he only God . Foreign gods cannot provide peace or joy or hope – they leave you chasing it.

You Lord also found me in a wasteland, without a God and enfolded me in Your love, acceptance and forgiveness. You gave me the water and the bread of life and a place in Your family. Vigilant now to have no foreign god.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Monday 2nd March 2026

Two worship hymns which spring from speaking out the words of Moses (and remembering Isaiah 40:31 rising on eagles wings also).

Lyrics: Peter West, Mary Kirkbride, Mary Lou King

Come live in me all my life, take over
Come breathe in me
I will rise on eagle’s wings
Come live in me all my life, take over
Come breathe in me
I will rise on eagle’s wings

Here I am waiting
Abide in me I pray
Here I am longing for You
Hide me in Your love
Bring me to my knees
May I know Jesus more and more

Come live in me all my life, take over
Come breathe in me
I will rise on eagle’s wings
Come live in me all my life, take over
Come breathe in me
I will rise on eagle’s wings

Come live in me all my life, take over
Come breathe in me
I will rise on eagle’s wings

But when Elisha, the man of God, heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes in dismay, he sent this message to him: “Why are you so upset? Send Naaman to me, and he will learn that there is a true prophet here in Israel.” So Naaman went with his horses and chariots and waited at the door of Elisha’s house. 10 But Elisha sent a messenger out to him with this message: “Go and wash yourself seven times in the Jordan River. Then your skin will be restored, and you will be healed of your leprosy.”

11 But Naaman became angry and stalked away. “I thought he would certainly come out to meet me!” he said. “I expected him to wave his hand over the leprosy and call on the name of the Lord his God and heal me! 12 Aren’t the rivers of Damascus, the Abana and the Pharpar, better than any of the rivers of Israel? Why shouldn’t I wash in them and be healed?” So Naaman turned and went away in a rage. 13 But his officers tried to reason with him and said, “Sir, if the prophet had told you to do something very difficult, wouldn’t you have done it? So you should certainly obey him when he says simply, ‘Go and wash and be cured!’” 14 So Naaman went down to the Jordan River and dipped himself seven times, as the man of God had instructed him. And his skin became as healthy as the skin of a young child, and he was healed!” 2 Kings 5:8-14 NLT

Father of all knowledge and understanding,

The King learned that even a King is just a man in need of God. Elisha learned to hear what You wanted to do in the situation – for good. Naaman learned that pride can stop you from receiving from God but that humility has great reward. His men were willing to give You God the opportunity. And also that You do what You say You will do. And Gehazi unfortunately learnt that greed can make you sick (2 Kings 5:20-26).

And who began this miracle? “At this time Aramean raiders had invaded the land of Israel, and among their captives was a young girl who had been given to Naaman’s wife as a maid.  One day the girl said to her mistress, “I wish my master would go to see the prophet in Samaria. He would heal him of his leprosy.” (2 Kings 5:2,3). A nameless young girl who kept her faith in very difficult circumstances far from home and family.

Keep us humble, knowing we are reliant on You. To be encouragers and content with where You have placed us. And most of all, help us to look for You expectantly in those impossible and difficult situations.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
