“Now the mixed multitude who were among them yielded to intense craving; so the children of Israel also wept again and said: “Who will give us meat to eat? We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic; but now our whole being is dried up; there is nothing at all except this manna before our eyes!” Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its color like the color of bdellium. The people went about and gathered it, ground it on millstones or beat it in the mortar, cooked it in pans, and made cakes of it; and its taste was like the taste of pastry prepared with oil. And when the dew fell on the camp in the night, the manna fell on it. 10 Then Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, everyone at the door of his tent; and the anger of the Lord was greatly aroused; Moses also was displeased. ” Numbers 11:4-10 NKJV

God and Lord,

I had not really paid much attention to this particular moan before. Now I read it again I notice it is the mixed multitude who had followed them from Egypt who started it all off. They were the ones who went about raving over the memories of cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic! Then Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families. It had spread.

The children of Israel did not stand in faith or give testimony or speak of gratitude for the miraculous manna in the wilderness. Which they did not have to plant, tend and look after. No, they listened and swallowed the half truth. They ate well but did not have what they used to grow.

Perhaps there are times when we should not listen to the mixed multitude who cannot see from Your perspective and sometimes are led by their own discontent. And perhaps we need to see when we are complaining and have neglected to see Your provision because we are in a transient place.

You gave us permission to ask in prayer (Matthew 7:7) seek and knock. But it does not say you are Santa Claus or that we can then join in with all the complainers. The mixed multitude cannot see that You are Lord even when men are waring against each other and the news is bad. We cannot deny it, but help us keep Your perspective. You are Lord of all. We cannot see all. Are we discontent with the Saviours love and daily leading? Keep us looking to You the pioneer and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Tuesday 4th March 2025
I love this song. When I am bombarded by other views, and there is always something to be negative about- it helps me get perspective.

When this life of trials test my faith
I set my hope on Jesus
When the questions come and doubts remain
I set my hope on Jesus
For the deepest wounds that time won’t heal
There’s a joy that runs still deeper
There’s a truth that’s more than all I feel
I set my hope on Jesus

I set my hope on Jesus
My rock, my only trust
Who set His heart upon me first
I set my hope on Jesus

Though I falter in this war with sin
I set my hope on Jesus
When I fail the fight and sink within
I set my hope on Jesus
Though the shame would drown me in its sea
And I dread the waves of justice
I will cast my life on Calvary
I set my hope on Jesus

Chorus

Though the world called me to leave my Lord
I set my hope on Jesus
Though it offer all its vain rewards
I set my hope on Jesus
Though this heart of mine is prone to stray
Give me grace enough to finish
‘Til I worship on that final day
I set my hope on Jesus

Chorus
