 On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet, 11 which said: “Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.” I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. 15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters.” . . .
“When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.” Revelation 1:10-15, 17-18 NIV

Lord God,

Revelation, I find is a very difficult book to read and to understand. And many great scholars treat it in a different way. Visionary, futuristic, codes for the future, some already happened? I do not pretend to know. Some passages seem easier to understand and some I take in faith and await for revelation for myself. What I do see is You God, and Your Son and mankind. And sin and battle and finally the final victory. Of that I have no doubt.

At the very beginning, John sees One like the son of man. Jesus but now risen to trinity and with You. Beautiful descriptive words for something hardly describable. A golden sash over a long robe. A sign of of kingship, priesthood, authority and purity. White hair reminding us of Daniel 7:9 and You, the Ancient of Days. and eyes of blazing fire. Who could look into them except through Jesus? Feet that walked through death itself and will trample down HIs enemies. A voice like the voice of many waters. The same as Your voice which Ezekiel heard when he saw a vision of the Temple in Ezekiel 43:2.

John saw Jesus and understood His divinity and equality with You. And in verse 17 we read that John was so overcome he fell down as if dead. But You answered as You do on so many occasions to those who love You, with, “Do not be afraid”. We too must remember to see Your Son as who He truly is together with You and Your Holy Spirit. Not just a great man, a gentle man, a loving man but as You are, almighty victorious and worthy of all our praise, all the time.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Wednesday 31st December 2025

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
in light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;
thy justice like mountains high soaring above
thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.

To all life thou givest, to both great and small;
in all life thou livest, the true life of all;
we blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
and wither and perish but naught changeth thee.

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight;
all praise we would render, O help us to see
’tis only the splendour of light hideth thee.

“After that generation died, another generation grew up who did not acknowledge the Lord or remember the mighty things he had done for Israel. 11 The Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight and served the images of Baal. 12 They abandoned the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt. They went after other gods, worshiping the gods of the people around them. And they angered the Lord. 13 They abandoned the Lord to serve Baal and the images of Ashtoreth. 14 This made the Lord burn with anger against Israel, so he handed them over to raiders who stole their possessions. He turned them over to their enemies all around, and they were no longer able to resist them.” Judges 2:10-14 NLT

Father God,

Short memories and every generation like to do things its own way. Nothing has changed. Except . . . These were Your chosen people and You kept telling them one day they would bless all nations. And they were Your people by birth. Born into the lineage of Abraham.

Then Jesus talked about being born again into Your Kingdom (John 3:3). It reminds me that there are no grandchildren in Your Kingdom. Only Your children (John 1:12) We are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God in Jesus (John 1:13).

You have not changed. You are still disappointed, angry? when one of Your children turns away to other Gods or abandons You. And we would not want to anger You – but it is not fear that keeps me faithful. Though a healthy respect is good. It is Your profound love in sending Jesus, Your endless forgiveness and Your pouring out Yourself into our lives by Your Holy Spirit for our good. It is Your promises and who You. It is the gift of resurrection. It is knowing Your with me always. Keep me true.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

 “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.” Matthew 7:6 NKJV

God only wise,

Don’t cast your pearls before swine. I heard that as a child and thought it funny as I didn’t have any pearls and couldn’t believe anyone would throw them to swine. But I soon found that I cannot argue anyone into the gospel.

This verse comes straight after the warning to take the plank out of our own eye before trying to help someone with a splinter in theirs! (Matthew 7:3-5). I love the amusing pictures Matthew conjures up in my mind! So before we start trying to speak to sinners about holiness we need to remember we are only sinners saved by grace. Its all about Jesus. We still have faults and weaknesses.

Sometimes the most antagonistic to the gospel are the ones who are the most changed when they experience the love of God.. The church is fiercely persecuted in places and yet grows there! We need Your Holy Spirit’s guidance to direct us to sow seeds where You are gardening even if it seems negative.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Suggestions for prayer . . .
God only wise,

For our close family. Your love showing the way to You.
For our extended family, friends, neighbours.
For our fellowship, ministers and congregations. Touch hearts in the breaking of bread.
For those not able to attend church today to know they are family.
For our king and all those in authority (1 Timothy 2:2).
For Parliament and the upholding of all that is good and right.
For Ukraine and Russia.
For Gaza, all around the Middle East.
We plead for peace for both areas. Holy Spirit work miracles.
For the churches in North Korea, Afghanistan, Somalia, Libya, Pakistan, Eritrea, Yemen, Iran, Nigeria, and India . . . where there is persecution and Christians are still martyred for their faith.
For churches across the world where Your Spirit is moving and there is growth and new believers.
For us to accept Your grace as we accept the air we breathe. Not to judge others. To pray for those we long to see open to the gospel.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen
