Rejoice in hope, endure in suffering, persist in prayer. ” Romans 12:12
Father God,
I picked up my Bible to randomly read something. And started to read through Romans 12. It was heavy going Father, the exhortations to be the best we can be at all times. And then, there, right in the middle You put this little breather of a verse! Like a sauce rendered down to intense flavour. Lifting my tired eyes from the nitty gritty to see the sky, mountains, open spaces and vastness of Your love.
So too in the midst of life, every day, we need that pause, that glimpse of You, to get Your perspective. To look away from ourselves and look to You to be renewed. So we can rejoice in hope, while we pray and endure whatever else is going on with You. Hope forces us to look over our present circumstances to You. Not always easy! We have all heard of the person who found a £5 note on the pavement. They spent months looking down and found, buttons, sweet papers, dog you know what and 20p. And missed passing friends, blossoming gardens, blue skies, life.
Hope, not pie in the sky, but based on Your word and promises, causes us to rejoice and restores us. You leading us one day at a time! We look up to You, wonderful Saviour. because “hope does not disappoint us, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (Romans 5:5). Pour Your love and hope into our hearts today. Give us a glimpse of Your glory.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen

In 1834, Edward Mote was Pastor of Rehoboth Baptist Church in Horsham West Sussex in the United Kingdom. He writes, “One morning it came into my mind as I went to labour, to write a hymn on the ‘Gracious Experience of a Christian.’ As I went up Holborn I had the chorus, ‘On Christ the solid Rock I stand, All other ground is sinking sand.’
My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand:
all other ground is sinking sand;
all other ground is sinking sand.
When darkness veils his lovely face,
I rest on his unchanging grace;
in every high and stormy gale,
my anchor holds within the veil.
His oath, his covenant, his blood,
support me in the whelming flood;
when all around my soul gives way,
he then is all my hope and stay.
When he shall come with trumpet sound,
O may I then in him be found:
dressed in his righteousness alone,
faultless to stand before the throne.
