“Who has believed our message? To whom has the Lord revealed his powerful arm? My servant grew up in the Lord’s presence like a tender green shoot, like a root in dry ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him. He was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.

Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.

He was oppressed and treated harshly, He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. Unjustly condemned, he was led away. No one cared that he died without descendants, that his life was cut short in midstream. But he was struck down for the rebellion of my people. He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man’s grave.

10 But it was the Lord’s good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord’s good plan will prosper in his hands. 11 When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins.”

Eternal Father,

It is difficult to choose a few verses from this chapter. Because it is such a wonderful preview of Your Son and His life and death. And what it means to us. How incredible that Isaiah, or whoever wrote the end of this his book should have such a clear view.

It was Your good will to send him, to crush him and cause Him grief. It is difficult to believe You could love us that much. So insignificant we seem in the light of history. So today perhaps I just need to read, marvel and wonder at Your great grace, Your awesome gift and my undeservingness. (If that is a word?) Praise, worship and thanks are not enough but it is all I have to give. Everything else I have, You have given me.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Sunday 3rd August 2025
No apologies for having this again, it was the first worship that came to mind.

My Jesus, my Savior
Lord there is none like you
All of my days, I want to praise
The wonders of your mighty love
My comfort, my shelter
Tower of refuge and strength
Let every breath, all that I am
Never cease to worship You

Shout to the Lord, all the earth let us sing
Power and majesty, praise to the King
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name
I sing for joy at the work of your hands
Forever I’ll love you, forever I’ll stand
Nothing compares to the promise I have
In YOU

“Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land. Then the word of the Lord came to him: “Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food.” 10 So he went to Zarephath. When he came to the town gate, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and asked, “Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?” 11 As she was going to get it, he called, “And bring me, please, a piece of bread.” 12 “As surely as the Lord your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.”

13 Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. 14 For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.’” 15 She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. 16 For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah.” 1 Kings 17:7-16 NIV

Father God,

Elijah learned to when to hide and rest. So he was ready when you sent him on a journey of many miles on well used routes. Dangerous because anyone recognising him could report to King Ahab! And the drought was still on so little food or water. Training, testing and refining all part of life with Yu then and now . . .

Training: obeying when You don’t see the whole picture. Testing: having to trust You Lord for provision and safety. Refining: Having to trust You to do what You say You will do. And as in our lives You do not do the same thing twice, why should You. You use ravens once and then You choose to use a widow so You can provide for her and her son too. He was also dependant on the widows behaviour. Sometimes we are not called to manage alone and we need to let You choose and lead us to the ones You want to use. All in all, when we get involved in Your plans miracles can happen. I am no Elijah but help me to be Your servant too.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Monday 23rd June 2025
I chose this worship because there are many days we do not see miracles and our faith is tested. Bonus worship below just because it always lifts me up.

When God’s perfect plans are hard to see
and struggles surface everywhere,
we lay our lives before his sovereignty
and pray his peace would find us there.

Jesus, Lord of peace,
is with us now
and will forever be
our Shepherd King
who leads us into perfect stillness.

When sadness hits our homes, and all feels lost,
when the night is full of fear,
the God of comfort shows his love to us
and holds us tightly through the tears.

The Lord is my defender, this I know;
he watches over me with grace.
The darkness will not overwhelm my soul,
for my eternity is safe.

“So David fled and escaped, and went to Samuel at Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and stayed in Naioth. 19 Now it was told Saul, saying, “Take note, David is at Naioth in Ramah!” 20 Then Saul sent messengers to take David. And when they saw the group of prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as leader over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied. 21 And when Saul was told, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. Then Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also.” 1 Samuel 19:18-21 NKJV

God of the unjustly persecuted,

David has just escaped Saul because his wife Micah helped him (1 Samuel 19:12). I would probably have gone as far away as quickly as possible! When I reread this passage I find David does a wiser thing. He goes to a Godly man and stays for a while. He can look at his difficult and confusing situation knowing Samuel will not judge but take it to the Lord.

Three times Saul sent men to take David prisoner. Three times they are filled with Your Holy Spirit, God, and go home empty handed. They praised God and went home! Surely Saul must have realised he could not fight You! But then he comes himself. He prophesies even while on the way. Your Holy Spirit filling and enabling him to praise You. He even lays on the floor naked showing humility. He saw what he could become if he let go of the darkness, jealousy and murderous thoughts within him. That’s a fantastic exchange. You offered. But it was not taken.

Thank You that we can exchange all our hurt, shame, sin, darkness, for Your Holy Spirit of life and forgiveness because of Jesus (Hebrews 12:1-2). Help us recognise and respect those we can go to when we are confused or in difficulty who will seek Your face with us. Help us by Your Spirit, to let go of envy, jealousy, pride . . . Help us to praise in difficulty.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
