“Through him (Jesus) you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.” 1 Peter 1:21 NIV

 “Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory.” 1 Peter 1:21 NLT

Lord God,

Positive verses like all is great now. But how often the disciples turned to Jesus because they were afraid. Once they thought he had gone to sleep when they were about to drown (Mark 4:38). I’d have been terrified. He stopped the storm with a word and asked them why they were so afraid (Mark 4:40). We now live with Your Spirit alive in Him and Him in us, we are learning to trust. We look back and see how You have been there for us every step of the way. We glimpse how You were working in our lives always for good.

So we chose, we choose, to put our trust in You and have faith because of Jesus. And to be sure there will be storms and times of questioning life is not a bowl of cherries! Not sure where that saying comes from! But we will find in those times that You are holding us. It is a pro active two way relationship. You and me, Lord. Cemented in place by Jesus. Help us to trust as we go and grow.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen

Lord God,

For family, friends, neighbours, hold them safe, send them all they need to be well today.
Bless our church family and all the lent groups that are meeting across this nation.
For all the Royal family. King Charles and Camilla, Prince William, Kate and family for healing.
For our government. Focus all sides of the Lords and Commons on the common good for the people of this nation.
For an end to the war in Ukraine. Send a miracle and soon. Have mercy. Bless and prosper those delivering aid and medical care.
For Gaza an end to all the killing, hostage taking and hate. Give success to the search for peace and help those trying to deliver aid to where it is needed.
For the church in Ukraine, Myanmar and the underground churches. Keep them safe and strong.
For our community and those most vulnerable. For all the support agencies and volunteer groups.
For us to bring our praise and thanks for last week and know You are going before us into this week. Smoothing the way and building our trust.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Tuesday 5th March 2024

The words to this hymn “He Will Hold Me Fast” were originally written by: Ada Ruth Habershon. Matthew Merker read the words while going through a period of questioning in his faith journey. Through his struggle and working out of his faith, he emerged stronger. The questions were not too big for God.  The resultant modern version of the hymn are powerful and comforting.

When I fear my faith will fail
Christ will hold me fast
When the tempter would prevail
He will hold me fast
I could never keep my hold
Through life’s fearful path
For my love is often cold
He must hold me fast

He will hold me fast
He will hold me fast
For my Saviour loves me so
He will hold me fast

Those He saves are His delight
Christ will hold me fast
Precious in His holy sight
He will hold me fast
He’ll not let my soul be lost
His promises shall last
Bought by Him at such a cost
He will hold me fast

He will hold me fast
He will hold me fast
For my Saviour loves me s
o
He will hold me fast

For my life He bled and died
Christ will hold me fast
Justice has been satisfied
He will hold me fast
Raised with Him to endless life
He will hold me fast
‘Til our faith is turned to sight
When He comes at last!

He will hold me fast
He will hold me fast
For my Saviour loves me so
He will hold me fast

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 NIV

Almighty powerful God,

We all have weaknesses! You know them all very well. For some it is maths or shyness or maybe an inability to play sports. Being afraid of meeting new people or afraid of failure. Some of us don’t like change. We all learn coping mechanisms. Why are we so afraid of admitting what we are not confident at?

Truth is we all need, You God, and each others support. So we can, together make up for our deficiencies. How much greater too when we admit to You our weaknesses and allow You to step in and be our strength. I am not sure I take pleasure in weakness as Paul says, but I can praise You when I see Your power at work in my life or someone else’s.

Help us be strong when we are reproached or persecuted, not to take offence, and to stand in Your strength with forgiveness and grace. Those that speak without thinking or mock us because we believe, may one day see their own need for You Lord and remember our witness.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son
Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son

And now let the weak say, “I am strong”
Let the poor say, “I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us”
And now let the weak say, “I am strong”
Let the poor say, “I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us”

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Roman 5:1 KJV

God our Creator, our Lord and our Father,

I wonder how many Christians are fasting today or abstain from alcohol or cakes or chocolate or TV as part of lent? It can be interesting to discover how addicted we are to these things when we try to do without them! This year with our lent study, lent for me Father, has been more about Jesus. A deeper understanding of Jesus and me. Our relationship..

We cannot repair the broken relationship with You or bridge the chasm of offensive sin between us. You did it all. You came to us. Not remembering our past enmity, not bringing up our past failures. Giving Your whole self to making friendship possible with us. A sacrificial relationship.

Many of us have or have had family squabbles, times of not speaking, being annoyed. Broken friendships and people at church we don’t really get on with. Some relationships are painfully broken and need a miracle. Trust has been betrayed.

Help us remove hate and unforgiveness from our hearts. Not easy Lord! Help us forgive even where it would be foolish to trust again. Help us to build good, healthy relationships wherever we can. And through doing so learn about how You went to extreme’s to have a relationship with us. And love us and keep on loving us even when we offend, neglect you, or make mistakes..

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Suggestions for prayer:
God our creator, Lord and Father,

For family, friends, neighbours, we pray for all of them, grant them your friendship and help us give ours.
For our church family, ministers and all who serve, build their relationship with You, strong..
For all the Royal family. King Charles to Know Your holding Him through all His treatments.
For our government. Build relationships between individuals and parties so the best way forward can be found.
For an end to the war in Ukraine. Send a miracle and soon. Have mercy.
For the church in Ukraine, Myanmar and the underground churches. Keep them safe and strong.
For Gaza an end to the killing, hostage taking and hate. Enable talk, ceasefire and a path to peace.
Bless our local communities, food banks, church toddler groups, social and lunch provision.
Encourage and strengthen those who work in hospitals, dentist and doctors surgeries. Those who work in hospices and those who are close to the bereaved. Comfort the comforters.
For us today a good relationship with You. Encourage us and let us know anything we should put right. Anyone we should get in touch with to let them know they are loved.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Sunday 3rd March 2024

And can it be that I should gain
An int’rest in the Saviour’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, should die for me?

He left His Father’s throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace;
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race;
‘Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.

Long my imprisoned spirit lay
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quick’ning ray,
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free;
I rose, went forth and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

Lyrics: Charles Wesley

“And Can It Be That I Should Gain?” was written by Charles Wesley in 1738 to celebrate his conversion to Christ, which he regarded as having taken place on 21 May that year. The hymn celebrates his and our personal salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus and is sung in worship around the world today.
