 “I have experienced times of need and times of abundance. In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of contentment, whether I go satisfied or hungry, have plenty or nothing. 13 I am able to do all things through the one who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:12,13 NET

The One God,

I have experienced all sorts of times Lord, and I have learned, not always contentment, but about trust and about myself! I have learned the situations that I do not handle well and the situations I would rather avoid. Difficult people, conflict, dentists! Situations where I need to say something that not everyone will like or doing something new. . . I suppose for all of us it is something different. I would like to have Your contentment as my foundation so I do not drown in fear or feel deflated.

Paul witnessed and promised that we can find, in You, all the strength we need to do and to get through these things and times. He does not say we will not have human emotions or that we can avoid them! But even if the outcome is not good – sickness, false accusations, financial difficulties – You can see us through. We need not to be utterly defeated.

Teach us, as we go, God. Help us to own our emotions but rely on Your steadfastness to get through. Help us to hold up Your shield of faith to protect our hearts and minds. Give us confidence to know we are still in Your care in tough times and even failure. Show us the best way to handle situations when we feel out of our depth. Thank You that You are with us and for us, always.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Wednesday 21st February 2024

When peace like a river attendeth my way,
when sorrows like sea billows roll;
whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
“It is well, it is well with my soul.”

It is well, (it is well), with my soul (with my soul).
It is well, it is well with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
let this blest assurance control:
that Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
and has shed his own blood for my soul.

My sin oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
my sin, not in part, but the whole,
is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more;
praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

O Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
the clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
the trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend;
even so, it is well with my soul.

 “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” 1 John 3:2 NKJV

God our Father,

Beloved. Yes, we are Your beloved children. Sometimes it is hard to take in especially if we are not sure our earthly father loved us. From the moment we accept Christ into our lives we were adopted. We did not have to wait till we meet You face to face. Or pass a test. Or be good enough. You signed the agreement in Your Son’s blood. Done deed. But being adopted we do not have all the family likeness yet.

Here in the first letter of John, You remind us that we are not what we shall be. Saved believers are not perfect, are we? I can say that from personal experience but only about myself, we are not here to judge others!

We would love to be more and more like Christ. Hank You that You do not expect an immediate change to perfection overnight. Or to try so hard all the time we burn out! Your love patient, kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. It does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7).

Help us and forgive us as we go, learning and hopefully improving along the way. Oh that we would not be stubborn or have to keep learning the same lessons over again! One day, yes one day when Jesus is revealed (John thought it would be soon), or we meet You at the end of our lives, we shall become like Christ. What a day of rejoicing that will be.

Keep us, heavenly Father, one step at a time, one day at a time, as Your beloved children, in Your love becoming more like Your Son.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen

Worship Tuesday 20st February 2024
I could not decide so here is my dilemma. The first is an updated version of the original hymn which is below. Both lead me to worship. The first more thoughtful and the second lively and victorious. I pray one of them blesses you.

One day You’ll make everything new, Jesus
One day You will bind every wound
The former things shall all pass away
No more tears
One day You’ll make sense of it all, Jesus
One day every question resolved
Every anxious thought left behind
No more fear

When we all get to heaven
What a day of rejoicing that will be
When we all see Jesus
We’ll sing and shout the victory

One day we will see face to face, Jesus
Is there a greater vision of grace
And in a moment, we shall be changed
On that day
And one day we’ll be free, free indeed, Jesus
One day all this struggle will cease
And we will see Your glory revealed
On that day

And when we all get to heaven
What a day of rejoicing that will be
When we all see Jesus
We’ll sing and shout the victory

Yes, one day we will see face to face, Jesus
Is there a greater vision of grace?
And in a moment, we shall be changed
Yes, in a moment, we shall be changed
In a moment, we shall be changed
On that day

When we all get to heaven
What a day of rejoicing that will be
When we all see Jesus
We’ll sing and shout the victory
We’ll sing and shout the victory

Slightly different words spoken not sung on video . . .

We will weep no more
No more tears, no more shame
No more struggle, no more
Walking through the valley of the shadow
No cancer, no depression
Just the brightness of Your glory
Just the wonder of Your grace
Everything as it was meant to be
All of this will change
When we see You face to face
Jesus, face to face

Sing the wondrous love of Jesus
Sing His mercy and His grace
In the mansions bright and blessed
He’ll prepare for us a place

When we all get to heaven
What a day of rejoicing that will be
When we all see Jesus
We’ll sing and shout the victory

While we walk the pilgrim pathway
Clouds will overspread the sky
But when traveling days are over
Not a shadow, not a sigh

Let us then be true and faithful,
Trusting, serving every day;
Just one glimpse of Him in glory
Will the toils of life repay.

Onward to the prize before us!
Soon His beauty we’ll behold;
Soon the pearly gates will open;
We shall tread the streets of gold.

“who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.” 1 Peter 2:24 NKJV

“He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead
to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.” 1 Peter 2:24 NLT

God of the old and the new,

This verses remind me of the promise in Isaiah 53:5, “by His stripes we are healed.” Stripes meaning wounds. Yes, we do need to remember Your suffering and death – along with Your resurrection and our healing. And at one time I did not even know I was sick and dying in my sin!

Thank You, God, someone told me about Your cure. Your Son Jesus. It may have taken a while and other people saying the same thing for the light bulb to go on! And a lifetime to fully understand the depth, width and height of Your love. Then darkness gave way to light, fear gave way to faith and emptiness gave way to fellowship and a sure and certain hope. Healed, whole and wholly Yours. Help us to chase doubt and fear away. You made it a very personal experience for each one of us. Today we worship You and ask You to keep us faithful and knowing your healing love and power now and for ever.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

God of history and the future,

For family, friends, neighbours, answers to their prayers, and for many blessings today.
For our church family, ministers and all who serve, that they have good health: body, mind, soul.
For all the Royal family. Charles ongoing treatment. Kates full recovery.
For our government and MPs and their families. Raise up and bring down for good.
For those who need healing in their bodies, from fear, from trauma memories in their minds.
For an end to the war in Ukraine.
For Gaza an end to killing. Bombard them with Your peace.
For Yemen, Myanmar, North Korea, Chine, Sudan, Syria and other countries where there is war, aggression, oppression, dictatorship, slavery.
For those who cannot forgive themselves, remove their shame and guilt, release them.
For teachers to feel refreshed as they prepare to return to school after half term.
For us a day of healing past hurts, regrets and mistakes and a day to look for the good.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

New take which does not ruin a favourite hymn for me.

What can wash away my sin
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
What can make me whole again
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
Oh precious is the flow,
That makes me white as snow
No other fount I know
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

For my pardon, this I see
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
For my cleansing this my plea
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
Oh precious is the flow,
That makes me white as snow
No other fount I know
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

musical bridge . . .

This is all my hope and peace
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
This is all my righteousness
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
Oh precious is the flow,
That makes me white as snow
No other fount I know
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
