“My commandment is this—to love one another just as I have loved you.” John 15:12 NET
“I have loved you with an everlasting love;” Jeremiah 31:3 NIV

God of Love,

Sometimes simple is best. Jesus loves us this we know for the Bible tells us so. A hymn from the past! The truth is Jesus both showed and taught us love. Displaying the love You have for us. Yes, we need to learn to love our neighbours. We need to learn to love ourselves. But we cannot until we accept, believe and experience Your love, the source of selfless love.

Your love is indescribable. Jesus, You stretched out your arms and allowed yourself to be crucified, put to death for us (John 3:16). Your love is underneath us (Deuteronomy 33:27), faithful (Psalm 63:3), that of a divine Father (1 John 3:1), and so wide, long ,high and deep it is beyond knowledge (Ephesians 3:18-19).

Help us learn to be loved and love. Simply as and where we can. Holy Spirit teach us.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

God of Love,

For family, friends, neighbours, prayers answered and a good day. To know they are loved by You.
For our church families to grow and be blessed with good fellowship..
For the Royal family to know and trust You. For Charles to be healed and family rifts to be mended.
For our government and MPs and their families.
For Your wisdom and purpose in decisions made by the international world Governments. Those whose power affects more than their own nation.
For Ukraine and Gaza permanent peace. Along with Yemen, Myanmar, North Korea, Chine, Sudan, Syria and other countries where there is war, aggression, oppression, dictatorship, slavery.
We pray for Israel that they would hear You at this time and make wise choices for peace.
For all the volunteers who make life better at food banks, on phone help lines, helping neighbours and supporting the vulnerable. Who love to serve.
Thank You for a new day.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Monday12th February 2024

Love divine, all loves excelling,
joy of heaven, to earth come down,
fix in us thy humble dwelling,
all your faithful mercies crown.
Jesus, thou are all compassion,
pure, unbounded love impart;
visit us with your salvation,
enter every trembling heart.

Breathe, O breathe Thy loving Spirit
Into every troubled breast;
Let us all in Thee inherit,
Let us find the promised rest.
Take away the love of sinning;
Alpha and Omega be;
End of faith, as its beginning,
Set our hearts at liberty.

Come, almighty to deliver,
let us all thy life receive;
suddenly return, and never,
never more your temples leave.
Thee we would be always blessing,
serve you as your hosts above,
pray, and praise thee without ceasing,
glory in thy perfect love.

Finish then thy new creation;
pure and spotless let us be;
let us see thy great salvation,
perfectly restored in thee:
Changed from glory into glory
Till we cast our crowns before thee
Lost in wonder, love and grace.

lost in wonder, love, and praise!

 “I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.” Psalm 121:1-4 NKJV

God who made heaven and earth,

This is one of those Psalms Lord I remember when I awake in the night and cannot get back to sleep! But like with many hymns I can remember the first half easily but struggle with the second half! It is also my go to scripture when I want to counter those who worship creation and not the creator. Stood on the top of a lake district Crag , the Malvern Hills, Snowdonia or even Mow Cop I marvel at the amazing views, the wonder of creation, but more so at the wonder of Your love who formed them. The children of Israel felt that high places were somehow more Holy. But we are not closer to You, God – just more apart from the noise of mankind.

Sometimes we feel church is the place to meet You. Perhaps that too is a place where we can escape from the noise of mankind. The true wonder is that Jesus showed us that we have You, God, available personally through Your Holy Spirit, wherever we are. You are not some idol limited to Your temple. Our help comes from You, who is, who was and always will be creator of the world, the Saviour of the word and the one who gives us limitless love. You are not part of creation, You made it.

We worship and thank You, You who never slumbers or sleeps but is always there for us. Specially when we wake in the night.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

God who made heaven and earth,

For family, friends, neighbours, to have their hopes met and health, strength and peace.
For our church families to grow and reach out beyond the walls.
For the Royal family to know and trust You. For Charles treatment to go well and not be unpleasant. For Prince William, Princess Anne and Queen Camilla as they take on his duties.
For our government and MPs and their families.
For Your wisdom in decisions made by international world Governments. For the USA and their future leadership to be for good.
For those who suffer from lack of sleep, the inability to sleep or broken sleep. Make up the rest to their bodies and their minds.
For all the volunteers who make life better at food banks, on phone help lines, helping neighbours and supporting the vulnerable.
For us, a day of rest and perhaps company and smiles? Remind us as the snowdrops break through that spring will surely come and we do not have to wait for You. You are here now.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Sunday 11th January 2024

I have not heard this for many years possibly back in the 1990’s? But I love it.

I lift my eyes up, to the mountains
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from You
Maker of heaven, Creator of the earth
Repeat . . .

Oh how I need you Lord
You are my only hope
You’re my only prayer

So I will wait for you
to come and rescue me
Come and give me life

Lyrics: Brian Doerkson and Psalm 121.

“To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,

To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” Isaiah:61:3

Lord God Almighty,

We know “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16). But there are those Old Testament scriptures which are more familiar, more personal and which give strength and comfort difficult times. For me Father, this is one of those.

Isaiah was talking to those who mourned for Zion, a rebellious nation. There is a promise for the present and a glimpse of the future. When a rebellious world would be offered a way to You through Jesus Christ. He now offers comfort to those who mourn. We can testify to that. We do not have to walk about in sackcloth and ashes. You forgive us, we can know it so. Jesus offers the beauty of Your total forgiveness in the place of guilt and sin. We have Your indwelling love even when life is tough, heavy. We can praise You and have our spirit lifted because You are our shield, our glory and the lifter of our heads (Psalm 3:3).

We can be like righteous trees rooted and grounded in Christ, (Ephesians 3:17 KJV). Made beautiful in the glory of Christ. Even when we still live in a world or sin and rebellion. But today we have real hope realised in Jesus.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Lord God Almighty,

For family, friends, neighbours, to have their deepest needs met and their lives enriched.
For our church families to grow and blossom and extend to reach those who do not know You.
For the Royal family to know and trust You. For Charles to be healed and family rifts to be healed.
For the governments in the UK. England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Stability and Your leading.
For Your wisdom and purpose in decisions made by the international world Governments.
For those going through tough times. Needing healing, employment, good mental health, help with broken relationships, freedom from addiction . . .
For families during the half term break. Grandparents who help child mind and rest for teachers. For the many churches and charities across this nation doing good and run by volunteers and donors.
For us and our needs to be met today. Practical, emotional or spiritual and to know Your provision.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Saturday 10th January 2024

All I I know is this scripture was put to music in 1984. I think that was when I learned it – along with the scripture. I hope the use of smart phones and the Bible on line does not stop young people having scripture in their memory.

He gave me beauty for ashes
The oil of joy for mourning
The garment of praise
For the spirit of heaviness
That we might be trees of righteousness
The planting of the Lord
That He might be glorified

Isaiah 61:3
