“Now as they spoke to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them, being greatly disturbed that they taught the people and preached in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. However, many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand. And it came to pass, on the next day, that their rulers, elders, and scribes, as well as Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the family of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, “By what power or by what name have you done this?” Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, 10 let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. 11 This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ 12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”” Acts 4:1-12 NKJV

Lord of Lords and Lord of All,

People use the word God now as an expletive all the time. Even those who do not wish to talk to You call on You. Many things have become God and many Pagan Gods still exist and are worshipped. But here Peter clears up who he serves and obeys even though it may affect his future freedom and even his life. Gone is the confused, scared man who said to the woman in the firelight garden when Jesus was arrested that he didn’t know Jesus (Luke 22:57).

By the authority vested in him by Jesus Christ of Nazareth who was crucified and raise from the dead. This same Jesus who has given us His salvation and blessed us with His Holy Spirit. There is no-0ne else who has the authority over creation. Even if for time he allows the enemy to run amok. His time is limited. His power is limited. He cannot be everywhere all the time. We should not give him attention but focus on the One who Lord of all.

Peter understood that having Jesus as His Lord gave him authority to ask for Heavens help. If You God stamp the request then nothing in heaven or on earth can stop it. Your authority is above all others. Help us to see what You are doing and help. Help us to learn to pray with sensitivity and according to Your will. Help us to pray and leave You with the outcome. Help us not to loose faith when prayers are not answered as we would want them. But to look at what You are doing for good. Help us to pray big.

In Jesus name we ask, Amen.

Remember this?

There is power in the name of Jesus
We believe in His name
We have called on the name of Jesus
We are saved, we are saved!
At His name, the demons flee
At His name, captives are freed

For there is no other name
That is higher than Jesus

There is power in the name of Jesus
Like a sword in our hands
We declare in the name of Jesus
We shall stand, we shall stand!
At His name, God’s enemies
Shall be crushed beneath our feet

For there is no other name
That is higher than Jesus

At His name, God’s enemies
Shall be crushed beneath our feet

For there is no other name
That is higher than Jesus

For there is no other name
That is higher than Jesus

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus . . .

“Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o’clock prayer service. As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money. Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, “Look at us!” The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money. But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them.” Acts 3:1-8 NLT

 “Starting with Samuel, every prophet spoke about what is happening today. 25 You are the children of those prophets, and you are included in the covenant God promised to your ancestors. For God said to Abraham, ‘Through your descendants all the families on earth will be blessed.’ 26 When God raised up his servant, Jesus, he sent him first to you people of Israel, to bless you by turning each of you back from your sinful ways.” Acts 3:24-26

Father God,

Compassion and words. Sometimes answered prayer is miraculous, thou I do struggle with why sometimes you do not grant healing. And we do not see miracles commonly today. And they do not always lead to a person getting to know You. But when the words can be used alongside then we see the end result a change of heart miracle. The crowd watched and gathered round Peter so he grabbed the opportunity to explain about Jesus as the lame man leaped and jumped.

Being healed is a great witness but greater still is a sinner healed of His sin and receiving life eternal. Peter keeps his conversation based on what His audience knows. They are in the Temple and so would probably know their Scripture. Today Father we sometimes are speaking to people who have no knowledge of the Bible. Help us to find ways to introduce them to it and the story of Salvation.

Help us still see the miraculous in our day and the power of Your Word in listeners lives. Peter and John did not just feel sorry for the man they had compassion. They were not afraid to speak of Jesus to those who may have been among the crowd who shouted crucify. It is a challenging passage for those of us who want to be disciples. Holy Spirit help us. May we go with the same joy of the lame man who was healed praising You God.

Indulge me, some of these songs plant scripture into young and old hearts.

Peter and John went to pray;
they met a lame man on the way.
He asked for alms and held out his palms,
and this is what Peter did say:

“Silver and gold have I none,
but what I have I give to you.
In the name of Jesus Christ
of Nazareth, rise up and walk!”

He went walking and jumping and praising God,
walking and jumping and praising God.
“In the name of Jesus Christ
of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”

“In my first book I told you, Theophilus, about everything Jesus began to do and teach until the day he was taken up to heaven after giving his chosen apostles further instructions through the Holy Spirit. During the forty days after he suffered and died, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. And he talked to them about the Kingdom of God. Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.””
Acts 1:1-5 NLT

“On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them.” Acts 2:1-3 NLT

Father of time,

Everything fits in Your plan. Even when we don’t always see it. Jesus died at the time of Passover. A time to remember when God’s people were saved from the angel of death, who passed over when he saw the blood of the sacrificial lamb on their doorposts. Jesus became our sacrificial Lamb (John 1:29). Fifty days later is the Jewish festival of Shavuot (Meaning weeks). The Festival for the wheat harvest and also a commemoration of the giving of the Law (Torah, 1st 5 books of our Bible) to Moses. on Mount Sinai. So 50 days after we were saved by the blood of the Lamb, Your Holy Spirit came and began the harvest of souls and the Law was written on hearts. As Jeremiah prophesied in 31:33.

Pentecost is the Greek word for 50 and so the day the Spirit came was named Pentecost in the Greek New Testament and after in other translations. It is reassuring to see how You plan unfolded, You were working out the present and the future, and therefore our time to come. Nothing is by chance even in the mess of this still sinful rebellious world You are still in control. Thank you for the birth of the church and the harvest of souls which continues to this day. Thank you that we are a part of the future eternity even if we cannot quite grasp the fulness of what that means. That we are in it together and with You. Help us to live now, in today. Making the most of our time and opportunities (Ephesians 5:16). Strengthened by Your Spirit in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9-11). Trusting in Your plan (Proverbs 3:5-6).

In Jesus name we pray, Amen

New hymn to me but I love the timeless prayer.

O Breath of life, come sweeping through us,
Revive Your church with life and power.
O Breath of life, come, cleanse, renew us,
And fit Your church to meet this hour.

O Wind of God, come bend us, break us,
Till humbly we confess our need;
Then in Your tenderness remake us,
Revive, restore, for this we plead.

O Breath of love, come breathe within,
Renewing thought and will and heart;
Come, Love of Christ, afresh to win us,
Revive Your church in every part.

Verse omitted in video
(O Heart of Christ, once broken for us,
’tis there we find our strength and rest;
our broken, contrite hearts now solace,
and let your waiting church be blest.)

Revive us, Lord! Is zeal abating
While harvest fields are vast and ripe?
Revive us, Lord, the world is waiting,
Equip Your church to spread the light
