“But it came to pass on the seventh day that they rose early, about the dawning of the day, and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. On that day only they marched around the city seven times. 16 And the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people: “Shout, for the Lord has given you the city! 17 Now the city shall be doomed by the Lord to destruction, it and all who are in it. Only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all who are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. 18 And you, by all means abstain from the accursed things, lest you become accursed when you take of the accursed things, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it. 19 But all the silver and gold, and vessels of bronze and iron, are consecrated to the Lord; they shall come into the treasury of the Lord.”” Joshua 6:15-19 NKJV
“But the children of Israel committed a trespass regarding the accursed things, for Achan the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed things; so the anger of the Lord burned against the children of Israel. 2 Now Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth Aven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, “Go up and spy out the country.” So the men went up and spied out Ai. 3 And they returned to Joshua and said to him, “Do not let all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and attack Ai. Do not weary all the people there, for the people of Ai are few.” 4 So about three thousand men went up there from the people, but they fled before the men of Ai.” Joshua 7:1-4 NKJV
Lord God,
Why is it that men think they can fool You? Achan thought he needed to hide his sin from Joshua but he didn’t seem to worry about You? Perhaps he thought You would not notice him or he justified why he should have those beautiful things? I don’t want to dwell on afterwards but how everyone was needed to win Jericho. Every single person was involved. It doesn’t say anyone stayed in the tent as they didn’t want to do all those steps. They all went together in faith. And stayed silent for 6 days. I count that a miracle in itself! What a relief when they got to shout and the battle was won.
How we see churches that prosper when those committed to You Lord are in unity with each other and You come first. And they are a safe place for those searching or looking to come and taste and see how good You are (Psalm 34:8).And how wonderful after a quiet prayer meeting or a time of waiting on You Lord when a song of praise releases us to loudly praise.
But one person,Achen, let the side down after. And the battle with Ai was lost. Another person sinned later, just 2,000 years ago and it looked like the battle was lost. Judas. But that battle could not be lost because Jesus could not be defeated. He defeated death despite Judas. Keep us from covetousness and committed to being united with You and our church family. And give us times to shout the victory!
In Jesus name we pray, Amen,
Worship Saturday 7th March 2026
My Jesus, my Saviour
Lord there is none like You
All of my days I want to praise
The wonders of Your mighty love
My comfort, my shelter
Tower of refuge and strength
Let every breath, all that I am
Never cease to worship You
Shout to the Lord all the Earth, let us sing
Power and majesty, praise to the King
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name
I sing for joy at the work of Your hands
Forever I’ll love You, forever I’ll stand
Nothing compares to the promise I have
In You
