 “The sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Jarib, Zohar, and Shaul. 25 The descendants of Shaul were Shallum, Mibsam, and Mishma. 26 The descendants of Mishma were Hammuel, Zaccur, and Shimei. 27 Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters, but none of his brothers had large families. So Simeon’s tribe never grew as large as the tribe of Judah.” 1 Chronicles 4:24-27 NLT

“The oldest son of Israel was Reuben. But since he dishonored his father by sleeping with one of his father’s concubines, his birthright was given to the sons of his brother Joseph. For this reason, Reuben is not listed in the genealogical records as the firstborn son. 2 The descendants of Judah became the most powerful tribe and provided a ruler for the nation, but the birthright belonged to Joseph.3 The sons of Reuben, the oldest son of Israel, were Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. 4 The descendants of Joel were Shemaiah, Gog, Shimei, 5 Micah, Reaiah, Baal, 6 and Beerah. Beerah was the leader of the Reubenites when they were taken into captivity by King Tiglath-pileser of Assyria.” 1 Chronicles 5:1-4 NLT

God of Israel,

Reading through the Bible as events happened, today we read the Chroniclers of the day recording Your peoples family trees. It was important to be able to work out their ancestry back to Abraham. For that sense of belonging, and being of those who belong to You, God. It takes some reading through but like the excerpt’s above they do included little interesting snippets of history and what happened to them. Like Reuben no longer being listed as first born even though he was and why. And Simeon’s great, great grandsons had small families. The BIble is a story of real people, families and nation. And we learn from them about You and You teach us through them.

Today those of us, who choose Christ as our Saviour, become Your sons and daughters (2 Corinthians 6:18, 1 John 3:1,) You adopted us and there will be a chronicle of our birthright in Christ written in heaven in the book of life. It is an awesome warning in Revelation that there is a book of life. A chronicle of those who have bowed the knee to Christ and accepted HIm as Lord. And the terrible fate of those who have not (Revelation 20:15). We today learn from each other about You God and You can teach us much through each other if we are willing to learn.

Church doesn’t always feel like family for many reasons. Do I help or hinder?

Welcome to the family,

““Son of man, give the people of Israel this message: You are saying, ‘Our sins are heavy upon us; we are wasting away! How can we survive?’ 11 As surely as I live, says the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of wicked people. I only want them to turn from their wicked ways so they can live. Turn! Turn from your wickedness, O people of Israel! Why should you die? 12 “Son of man, give your people this message: The righteous behavior of righteous people will not save them if they turn to sin, nor will the wicked behavior of wicked people destroy them if they repent and turn from their sins. 13 When I tell righteous people that they will live, but then they sin, expecting their past righteousness to save them, then none of their righteous acts will be remembered. I will destroy them for their sins. 14 And suppose I tell some wicked people that they will surely die, but then they turn from their sins and do what is just and right. 15 For instance, they might give back a debtor’s security, return what they have stolen, and obey my life-giving laws, no longer doing what is evil. If they do this, then they will surely live and not die.” Ezekiel 33:10-15 NLT

Sovereign Lord,

Sovereign. You are Almighty. Supreme Ruler, Holy and righteous. Who deserves all praise, glory and adoration. Life giver, creation upholder. And I am so small, one person in billions I wonder occasionally, or is it the enemy whispering a lie, how You know me and why You go on forgiving me. And yet because of Jesus I know You do.

Ezekiel stopped acting out his message and was trying to explain Your ways simply. But to a people who took You for granted, went there own way and still thought You should take care of them and protect them. They no longer even kept us the pretence of ritual. They showed no concern about living contrary to Your laws. Or did they think You no longer cared?

It is amazing that now we can now turn from our sin and know Your forgiveness. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). We in one sense are always at the cross. We make mistakes – we sin – but he is always there with us wiping away the condemnation. Forgiving us as we go. Striving with us as we struggle to forgive someone who has hurt us when we battle against temptation. Always arms outstretched to enfold us. Always willing, by His Spirit, to bring us back to the source of life and hope.And lead us back on to the narrow way. May we always choose the good, the right, the honest, the best and when we do not, be quick to retrace our steps back to You.I do not have to wait for communion to be holy again. You are here, now. Keep us kneeling at the cross in our hearts.

Worship Wednesday 10th September 2025
Never tire of hearing this worship.

Wonderful grace that gives what I don’t deserve,
pays me what Christ has earned then lets me go free.
Wonderful grace that gives me the time to change,
washes away the stains that once covered me.

“The Lord took hold of me, and I was carried away by the Spirit of the Lord to a valley filled with bones. 2 He led me all around among the bones that covered the valley floor. They were scattered everywhere across the ground and were completely dried out. 3 Then he asked me, “Son of man, can these bones become living people again?” Then he said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to these bones and say, ‘Dry bones, listen to the word of the Lord! 5 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again! 6 I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”7 So I spoke this message, just as he told me. Suddenly as I spoke, there was a rattling noise all across the valley. The bones of each body came together and attached themselves as complete skeletons. 

8 Then as I watched, muscles and flesh formed over the bones. Then skin formed to cover their bodies, but they still had no breath in them. 9 Then he said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to the winds, son of man. Speak a prophetic message and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, O breath, from the four winds! Breathe into these dead bodies so they may live again.’” 10 So I spoke the message as he commanded me, and breath came into their bodies. They all came to life and stood up on their feet—a great army.” Ezekiel 37:1-10 NLT

Sovereign Lord,

So rich a passage. Bones of the dead and many, many of them. Disgraced because they had not been buried. Bones have no life of their own, yet they are essential. You showed Ezekiel that their is hope even for fallen and rebellious Israel for revival. But not just to bring them back but to breathe Your life into them. To become an army. Focussed together under one leader You God and willing to serve as an Army serves. But they have to be willing to listen to the message. The bones came together but were not alive utile=until they received the prophetic message of Your life. We are sad knowing that they did not listen to Ezekiel.

It is the breath of creation from You, God that brings us to life. When we are born and take our first breath. But You offer to breath in us something more. Your eternal life. We are not just bones knit together in our mothers womb to live and die and have no meaning. Jesus came and prophesied too that we could have life and life more abundantly (John 10:10). He breathed upon His disciples following His resurrection and they received Your Holy Spirit (John 20:22) .

We are saddened that people do not want to hear about the gift of life in You. You do not want nice good people but an Army filled with Your Spirit, Your love and grace. Your passion. That the whole world may have the opportunity to hear, choose Christ and know real life. Even if it is one at a time! I feel so small and weak and dependant on You breath of life. Lift me up in Your strength.
