“Now a wind went out from the Lord and drove quail in from the sea. It scattered them up to two cubits deep all around the camp, as far as a day’s walk in any direction. 32 All that day and night and all the next day the people went out and gathered quail. No one gathered less than ten homers. Then they spread them out all around the camp. 33 But while the meat was still between their teeth and before it could be consumed, the anger of the Lord burned against the people, and he struck them with a severe plague. 34 Therefore the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had craved other food.” Numbers 11:31-34 NIV
God who sets His people free,
Number is a gripping read with all of mans nature and all of Yours God. You have provided manna and water and safety and leadership and order. And they crave for what they have not! And we need to be honest before we jump in to judge them. And when they get what they want those rushing to gorge themselves (v33), find it is definitely not good for them . . .
Kibroth Hattaavah means graves of lust or graves of craving. Addict find that they need to take more and more of whatever their addiction is but are always chasing that first high. The enemy knows how to use and exaggerate those desires. Never satisfied always craving. Some of us know to a lesser extent with a packet of biscuit of a box of chocolates or whatever we decide to give up for lent! And when You want something sweet and there is nothing in the house it a trip to the late opening shop!
This surely is a warning to know that what we want is not always good for us even if it is not bad! Sometimes we want oranges because our body needs vitamin C and that is good but we need to check and see if the enemy is trying to make us unsatisfied with Your divine provision. And thank you for the little luxuries You send and we enjoy.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
