“When they (the wise men) saw the star they shouted joyfully.11 As they came into the house and saw the child with Mary his mother, they bowed down and worshipped him. They opened their treasure boxes and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. After being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they went back by another route to their own country.” Matthew 2:10,11 NET
Lord of all,
I know it has been said so many times Lord, that it is amazing that these wise men were not confused or surprised to find a baby and in such a lowly situation. Maybe the star gave them the continued assurance. And they just handed over their gifts. Very substantial ones at that, Gold , frankincense and Myrrh. Investments and they did not even suggest what they should be used for, how or when!
Wise men, Magi, astronomers or Kings? They recognised the star sign, they travelled, they reached and recognised You, a tiny baby yet a King. They did not worship the star. Because creation pointed to You! They came in joy and expectation, they worshipped in humility and they gave lavishly. And when they left they followed Your leading and avoided evil, (King Herod).
Surely an example for us to follow! Help us to come to You in joy and expectation, to worship in humility and give ourselves and all we have to You, to use as You will. And help us avoid all unrighteousness and evil. Help us because it is not always easy.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

For Sudan freedom from dictatorship of any kind. Middle East peace.
For wisdom for the NHS, schools and organisations that need to adapt for the future.
For all those who can generously support missions and charities and the widows mites.
For us see You in our every day in creation and be assured You are always with us.

Still time for a carol!
We three kings of Orient are;
bearing gifts we traverse afar,
field and fountain, moor and mountain,
following yonder star.
O star of wonder, star of light,
star with royal beauty bright,
westward leading, still proceeding,
guide us to thy perfect light.
Born a King on Bethlehem’s plain,
gold I bring to crown him again,
King forever, ceasing never,
over us all to reign.
Frankincense to offer have I;
incense owns a Deity nigh;
prayer and praising, voices raising,
worshiping God on high.
Myrrh is mine; its bitter perfume
breathes a life of gathering gloom;
sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying,
sealed in the stone-cold tomb.
Glorious now behold him arise;
King and God and sacrifice:
Alleluia, Alleluia,
sounds through the earth and skies.
