Welcome

“The word of the Lord that came to Micah of Moresheth during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah—the vision he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.” Micah 1:1 NIV

“Look! The Lord is coming from his dwelling place; he comes down and treads on the heights of the earth. The mountains melt beneath him and the valleys split apart, like wax before the fire, like water rushing down a slope. All this is because of Jacob’s transgression, because of the sins of the people of Israel. What is Jacob’s transgression? Is it not Samaria? What is Judah’s high place? Is it not Jerusalem?” Micah 1:4-5

“Because of this I will weep and wail; I will go about barefoot and naked. I will howl like a jackal and moan like an owl.” Micah 1:8

“I will bring a conqueror against you who live in Mareshah. The nobles of Israel will flee to Adullam. 16 Shave your head in mourning for the children in whom you delight; make yourself as bald as the vulture, for they will go from you into exile.” Micah 1:15-16 NIV

Father God,

Here at the same time as Isaiah we have Micah with a similar message. You did not leave Yourself without a witness and these two, speaking to Judah, overlapped the message of Hosea who spoke the the kingdom of Israel. Each with their own illustrations of the message of judgement. Each with the promise of future forgiveness and restoration.

God could not overlook the sin of Judah and Jerusalem. The place he had chosen to meet with His people. The place selected to worship and bring offerings. It distressed Micah so much it affected him in mind, body and soul. People must have thought him mad? Or perhaps this was accepted behaviour of a prophet distressed by the message from You.

Micah knows his message will not be heard and he speaks of a time when children would be taken away. It would be 100 or so years before they would be taken into captivity and all the all the best officers and fighting men, and all the skilled workers and artisans were taken to Babylon. Leaving only the poorest people of the land. But he faithfully delivers it.

Make yourself bald, tear out Your hair. The Nazarites shaved off their hair to make a vow to the Lord. They could have mourned, returned to You and shown their penitence and escaped judgement. But chose not to.

Father we pray You will show us any hint of stubbornness taking room in our hearts and lives. It is subtle and we can be a little obstreperous. Thank you that we do not have to go about naked and howling – but keep our feet shod with Your gospel of judgement and forgiveness and ready to share.

In Jesus name we pry, Amen.

Worship Wednesday 16th July 2025
Not sung much today but its still all about Jesus and a contrite heart . . .

Jesus, the very thought of Thee
With sweetness fills my breast;
But sweeter far Thy face to see,
And in Thy presence rest.

Nor voice can sing, nor heart can frame,
 Nor can the memory find
A sweeter sound than Thy blest Name,
O Savior of mankind!

O Hope of every contrite heart,
O Joy of all the meek,
To those who fall, how kind Thou art!
 How good to those who seek!

Jesus, our only Joy be Thou,
As Thou our Prize wilt be;
Jesus, be Thou our Glory now,
And through eternity.

Jesus, the very thought of Thee
With sweetness fills my breast;
But sweeter far Thy face to see,
And in Thy presence rest.

“Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan—The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder.” Isaiah 9:1-3 NLT

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.” Isaiah 9:6-7 NLT

Holy God,

Incredible that this was written over 700 years ago that a child would be born, our wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace, Jesus. Isaiah never lived to see it but I believe He has now has met Him and had his well done. Amidst the many, many, many judgements and warnings from Isaiah, there are these beacons of hope and light. Just as we too see our dark warring world and see beacons of hope and light in Your promises. One day we will meet You face to face, at the end of this life or will see You if You come again before (Acts 1:11) (Revelation 1:7).

We see You now as through a glass darkly, Paul explains, but then face to face. We know You in part now but will know even as we are known. (1 Corinthians 13:12). That one promise is enough to feed on today . . . Seeing Jesus, knowing Jesus, You God, fully. How wonderful, how marvelous and my song shall ever be, how wonderful how marvelous is my Saviour love for me. You would not create, plan, forgive, give Yourself – unless You loved, love will love. Though we do not deserve it we receive Your love. We recognise our need of Your love and rely on Your love eternally. I bring my thanksgiving, my praise and my love a small offering to cast at Your feet in worship.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

One day this will be. I love this hymn. I think the power of the music makes it soar.

Underneath is a second worship – more meditative but equally as relevant.

 Lo! he comes with clouds descending,
Once for favored sinners slain!
Thousand, thousand saints attending,
Swell the triumph of his train.
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
God appears on Earth to reign.

Ev’ry eye shall now behold him,
Robed in dreadful majesty;
Those who set at naught and sold him,
Pierced and nailed him to a tree,
Deeply wailing, deeply wailing, deeply wailing,
Shall the true Messiah see.

The dear tokens of his passion
Still his dazzling body bears,
Cause of endless exultation
To his ransomed worshipers;
With what rapture, with what rapture, with what rapture
Gaze we on those glorious scars.

Yea! Amen! let all adore thee
High on thine eternal throne!
Savior, take the pow’r and glory,
Claim the kingdom for thine own.
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Everlasting God come down.

“The Lord has given me a strong warning not to think like everyone else does. He said, 12 “Don’t call everything a conspiracy, like they do, and don’t live in dread of what frightens them. 13 Make the Lord of Heaven’s Armies holy in your life. He is the one you should fear. He is the one who should make you tremble. 14He will keep you safe. But to Israel and Judah he will be a stone that makes people stumble, a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare. 15 Many will stumble and fall, never to rise again. They will be snared and captured.” 16 Preserve the teaching of God; entrust his instructions to those who follow me. 17 I will wait for the Lord, who has turned away from the descendants of Jacob. I will put my hope in him. 18 I and the children the Lord has given me serve as signs and warnings to Israel from the Lord of Heaven’s Armies who dwells in his Temple on Mount Zion. 19 Someone may say to you, “Let’s ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the dead. With their whisperings and mutterings, they will tell us what to do.” But shouldn’t people ask God for guidance? Should the living seek guidance from the dead? 20 Look to God’s instructions and teachings! People who contradict his word are completely in the dark.” Isaiah 8:11-20 NLT

God unchanging,

I am struck by how this passage speaks to our day and Your family in Christ now, just as it did in the day of Your people of Judah. You do not change and it seems we need to hear the same warning over and over again. I hope we heed them. Perhaps we have an advantage . . . in Jesus Not to think like anyone else does. – We have the Holy Spirit and the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:12, 16).

Not to believe conspiracy theories and live in dread of what frightens us. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth (Ephesians 4:14). Jesus said, “What is the price of five sparrows—two copper coins? Yet God does not forget a single one of them. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.” (Luke 12:7)

Not to be like Israel and Judah and see God as a stone that makes people stumble, a rock that makes them fall. – Jesus, became the stone that the builders rejected and has now become the cornerstone of the church. (Matthew 21:42)

To preserve the teaching of God. – Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Colossians 3:16) All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching (2 Timothy 3:16).

And so it goes on Lord. And we will consult You and not the dead for You were resurrected, nothing can kill you. We will live in the light, let our light shine and not hide it . . . and be grateful that You have conquered the darkness.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen
