“After that you shall come to the hill of God where the Philistine garrison is. And it will happen, when you have come there to the city, that you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with a stringed instrument, a tambourine, a flute, and a harp before them; and they will be prophesying. Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. And let it be, when these signs come to you, that you do as the occasion demands; for God is with you. You shall go down before me to Gilgal; and surely I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and make sacrifices of peace offerings. Seven days you shall wait, till I come to you and show you what you should do.” 1 Samuel 10:5-8

“And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was chosen. 21 When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was chosen. And Saul the son of Kish was chosen. But when they sought him, he could not be found. 22 Therefore they inquired of the Lord further, “Has the man come here yet?” And the Lord answered, “There he is, hidden among the equipment.”” 1 Samuel 10:20-23

Lord God,

Two men by Rachels tomb with news of the donkeys. Then by the terebinth tree of Tabor three men carrying three young goats, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a skin of wine. Who will give Saul two loaves of bread. Then as they come to the city a musical group that Saul will prophesy with! How many exact signs you give Saul to know this is God’s will and provision?!

And yet when Samuel comes, Saul is hiding. Scared, unwilling, doubtful? Perhaps looking for lost donkeys was the only responsibility this good looking young man wanted (1 Samuel 9:2).

Father, You do not often give us that many signs when we feel You are asking us, calling us to take up some task or responsibility. But Saul could not deny Your call. Help us not to be found hiding when You are calling us to a task, pretending we have not heard or making excuses. You do provide and teach and enable us. And help us to bide Your time not rush and panic like Saul, and push to do something before time (1 Samuel 13:11,12) . Even if we have lost an hour with the clock going forward!

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Sunday 29th March 2026
Only a month since we had this hymn but it is worth repeating. Who would guess it was written 120 years ago!

Have thine own way, Lord! Have thine own way!
Thou art the potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after thy will,
while I am waiting, yielded and still.

Have thine own way, Lord! Have thine own way!
Search me and try me, Master today!
Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now,
as in thy presence humbly I bow.

Have thine own way, Lord! Have thine own way!
Wounded and weary, help me I pray!
Power, all power, surely is thine!
Touch me and heal me, Saviour divine!

Have thine own way, Lord! Have thine own way!
Hold o’er my being absolute sway.
Fill with thy Spirit till all shall see
Christ only, always, living in me!
