“My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother; For they will be a graceful ornament on your head, and chains about your neck. 10 My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. 11 If they say, “Come with us, let us lie in wait to shed blood; let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause; 12 let us swallow them alive like Sheol, and whole, like those who go down to the Pit; 13 we shall find all kinds of precious possessions, we shall fill our houses with spoil; 14 cast in your lot among us, let us all have one purse”—15 My son, do not walk in the way with them, keep your foot from their path; for their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood.” Proverbs 1:8-12 NKJV

God our Father,

Just as surely as Solomon seems to be addressing his son in Proverbs we read and hear You addressing us as Your children. And we may think well I am not young anymore and I do not have the temptations of a rich idle offspring . . . but then Proverbs whole message is about being humble, accepting instruction and seeking wisdom!.

When I read this passage again I saw the simple advice of wisdom was to say no. Whoever or whatever comes across your path and is not good, wholesome and something not be ashamed about, say no to it. And back up your speech with action by walking away from it. There are times I look back and wish I had not been taken in but You know all that and I am so grateful for Your grace and mercy.

I look forward and trust I will keep on the straight and narrow as we say! Your good, straight and narrow way Lord God. (Matthew 7:13-14).

Very singable. It does not mention the name of God but the ‘You’ is surely Him.

One more step along the world I go,
one more step along the world I go,
from the old things to the new,
keep me traveling a long with you:
And it’s from the old I travel to the new;
keep me traveling along with you.

Round the corner of the world I turn,
more and more about the world I learn;
all the new things that I see,
you’ll be looking at along with me:
And it’s from the old I travel to the new;
keep me traveling along with you.

As I travel through the bad and good,
keep me traveling the way I should;
Where I see no way to go
you’ll be telling me the way I know:
And it’s from the old I travel to the new;
keep me traveling along with you.

Give me courage when the world is rough,
keep me loving though the world is tough,
leap and sing in all I do,
keep me traveling along with you:
And it’s from the old I travel to the new;
keep me traveling along with you.

You are older than the world can be,
you are younger than the life in me,
ever old and ever new,
keep me traveling along with you:
And it’s from the old I travel to the new;
keep me traveling along with you.
