“Now Nadab the son of Jeroboam became king over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years. 26 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin by which he had made Israel sin. 27 Then Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him. And Baasha killed him at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines, while Nadab and all Israel laid siege to Gibbethon. 28 Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his place. 29 And it was so, when he became king, that he killed all the house of Jeroboam. He did not leave to Jeroboam anyone that breathed, until he had destroyed him, according to the word of the Lord which He had spoken by His servant Ahijah the Shilonite, 30 because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he had sinned and by which he had made Israel sin, because of his provocation with which he had provoked the Lord God of Israel to anger.” 1 Kings 15:25-30 NKJV

Father God,

History was never my strong point but when explained I can understand why things happened as they did. Even if we are looking back to something we cannot know the exact details of. Kings and chronicles give us many details of the history of Israel which has now become Israel and Judah. But the crossover of Kings sometimes confuses me. The chat below helps somewhat and shows how they overlapped . . . grey being Israel and green Judah. Israel was taken captive to Assyria before Judah who were taken to Babylon. What I seem to learn is that they did not learn?

But You had a plan and it came to pass exactly as the prophets foretold. Today we see that leaders of nations do not seem to learn from history. Or want to be famous on the chart? But we have learned that we can trust, that once again, as You have promised Jesus will return. He will be King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Revelation 19:16). The only King we need, the only Saviour and the only Lord. He is worthy of all our worship. Present and future history would also make difficult charts – but through it all – Your plans will come to pass (Jeremiah 29:11).

Keep our eyes fixed on the good King Jesus, and filled with Your Spirit. Not Asa or confusion or doubts. And help us to do and be some good while we are a part of our history timeline.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Traditional hymn but the words stand true. Is it me or do we not sing about Jesus coming back very often?

Sing we the King who is coming to reign,
Glory to Jesus, the Lamb that was slain,
Life and salvation his empire shall bring
Joy to the nations when Jesus is King.

Chorus
Come let us sing: Praise to our King,
Jesus our King, Jesus our King;
This is our song, who to Jesus belong:
Glory to Jesus, to Jesus our King.

All men shall dwell in his marvellous light,
Races long severed his love shall unite,
Justice and truth from his sceptre shall spring,
Wrong shall be ended when Jesus is King.

All shall be well in his Kingdom of peace,
Freedom shall flourish and wisdom increase,
Foe shall be friend when his triumph we sing,
Sword shall be sickle when Jesus is King.

Knowledge and fear of the Lord then shall be,
As the deep waters that cover the sea;
All then shall be as the splendour of spring
And all harmonious when Jesus is King.

Kingdom of Christ, for thy coming we pray,
Hasten, O Father, the dawn of the day
When this new song thy creation shall sing,
Satan is vanquished and Jesus is King.
