““Therefore I will yet bring charges against you,” says the Lord, “And against your children’s children I will bring charges.
10 For pass beyond the coasts of Cyprus and see, send to Kedar and consider diligently, and see if there has been such a thing.
11 Has a nation changed its gods, Which are not gods? But My people have changed their Glory for what does not profit.
12 Be astonished, O heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid; Be very desolate,” says the Lord.
13 “For My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.””

Jeremiah 2:9-13 NKJV

God who changest not,

I can never rush over these verses in Jeremiah. It is a fundamental question that God asks his people through Jeremiah. After all I have done with You and for You why have You swapped me for gods who are made of wood, powerless and made up? Teams swap their coaches when they loose a lot. Musicians change their teachers when they want to progress to a higher level. How can a people change their god when their is only one? You God star in their history. You were evident by the miracles and constant guiding. You gave them festivals of remembrance both grave and joyful. You never left them even when they turned to other gods.

Even the other nations whose gods cannot be like You, stick to their gods. Jeremiah is amazed at Judah’s foolishness. But You are more than amazed. You are astonished! They have chosen dry worship. There is no refreshment in idolatry. I know if I am too busy, neglect my inner connection with You or are distracted by worries or fears, I run dry. Like a car running on almost empty . . . Not replacing You, but neglecting You? I suspect it is similar . . . and it doesnt mean I have to read chapters, pray for hours to make up. But restore and keep that constant communication intact.

In Jesus name we pry, Amen.

I like this version because they do not slow it down but sing it joyful.

 Great is thy faithfulness, O God, my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with thee.
Thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not;
As thou hast been, thou forever wilt be.

Great is thy faithfulness,
Great is thy faithfulness,
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed thy hand hast provided;
Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine and ten thousand beside.
