“Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, to you, O Baruch: 3 ‘You said, “Woe is me now! For the Lord has added grief to my sorrow. I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.” ’ 4 “Thus you shall say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Behold, what I have built I will break down, and what I have planted I will pluck up, that is, this whole land. 5 And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them; for behold, I will bring adversity on all flesh,” says the Lord. “But I will give your life to you as a prize in all places, wherever you go.” ’ ” Jeremiah 14:1-5 NKJV
“Woe is me, my mother, that you have borne me, a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent for interest, nor have men lent to me for interest. Every one of them curses me. 11 The Lord said: “Surely it will be well with your remnant; Surely I will cause the enemy to intercede with you in the time of adversity and in the time of affliction.” Jeremiah 15:10-11 NKJV
God who fulfills what he promises,
There is no relenting with Jeremiah. Trouble, strife, deportation from the promised land, death, servitude is constantly promised. Now, the generous opportunity to repent and change the future is rejected one time too many.
But here, for Baruch and Jeremiah, is an assurance that they will both live and see these events happen. Proving their words. Fear of death from those who wish to silence them. Fear from death at the hands of the Babylonians. Fear of death from staying in Jerusalem or being transported to Babylon. All is removed by God’s promises to them. And Jeremiah is given the glimpse of not just assurance for himself but for a remnant who like him are for You God.
Assurance. You still are in the business of giving assurance to Your people. That assurance which comes when we need to know You are with us (Matthew 28:20). Assured of Your love whatever comes (Romans 38:9) Assured that we will receive life even if we die (John 11:25-26). Blessed assurance.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen

This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.
Chorus
Perfect communion, perfect delight,
visions of rapture now burst on my sight.
Angels descending bring from above
echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
Chorus
Perfect submission, all is at rest.
I in my Savior am happy and bless’d,
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with his goodness, lost in his love.
Chorus
