“Now when I had delivered the purchase deed to Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed to the Lord, saying: 17 ‘Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You. 18 You show lovingkindness to thousands, and repay the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them—the Great, the Mighty God, whose name is the Lord of hosts. 19 You are great in counsel and mighty inwork, for Your eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men, to give everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings. 20 You have set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, to this day, and in Israel and among other men; and You have made Yourself a name, as it is this day. 21 You have brought Your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and wonders, with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, and with great terror; 22 You have given them this land, of which You swore to their fathers to give them—“a land flowing with milk and honey.” 23 And they came in and took possession of it, but they have not obeyed Your voice or walked in Your law. They have done nothing of all that You commanded them to do; therefore You have caused all this calamity to come upon them.” Jeremiah 32:16-19 NKJV
Lord God,
An honest man’s prayer. Jeremiah states that nothing is too difficult for You, God For You are Sovereign, Lord, all powerful and yet mercifully kind. You know every minor detail of everything every person does and you have revealed Yourself through miracles and signs. Yet Your people still have turned away from You, and You God are exiling them. Meanwhile You tell him to buy land and so his prayer is first remembering who You are and then seeking clarification, some way he can understand all this calamity.
He goes on to point out the siege mounds around Jerusalem, the inevitable defeat, so even he wonders why You God told him to buy the field (Jeremiah 32:24-25). I love Your answer Lord to Jeremiah, “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” (Jeremiah 33:3). The field was the future, hope and restoration.
It is encouraging, even though it is doubt raised. We can come to You with situations bigger than we can understand, We can give You all our concerns and doubts. No pretending. Lord in our world, our nation and even our own lives we have questions and doubts and confusion. So we can bring it all to You and trust You to work out the answers in Your way and Your time. You will show us what we need to see and wait for those mighty things You will do in Your time.
