“Also the sons of the foreigner who join themselves to the Lord, to serve Him, and to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants—everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, and holds fast My covenant—7 even them I will bring to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.” 8 The Lord God, who gathers the outcasts of Israel, says, “Yet I will gather to him others besides those who are gathered to him.”” Isaiah 56:6-8 NKJV
Lord God and Saviour,
In reading through the NKJV chronological Bible we are only a couple of weeks away from the silence at the end of the Old Testament and Your spoken Word bursting into our Word as a baby! I cannot wait but before then there are parts of Isaiah and Daniel and Zechariah to complete.
All three speak of the future that they will not know in their lifetime but which will or have come to pass. Even we have only seen in part (1 corinthians 13:12). After all the hullabaloo of foreign wives and keeping their distinct national way of life, and not allowing foreigners into the Temple, Isaiah talks about a house of prayer for all nations. A house.
Perhaps we need to see beyond a Temple. Beyond a physical building? Paul talks about us, our bodies, being a Temple for the indwelling of the Lord ( 1 Corinthians 6:19). And further explains in his letters that with Christ as our cornerstone we believers are being built up as if a Holy Temple where God dwells. (Ephesians 2:19-22. In those days the believers met wherever convenient.
A house of prayer. Not a house of study and theology – although that is beneficial. A place where You are approached for the first and the last Word. Where we can bring our failures our faults and our praise and worship. Where we can bring others literally or in prayer to Your presence. And You can always be found (Matthew 18:20).
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
Worship Wednesday 30th September 2026
Wherever we are as long as we bow the knee to You Lord, You are with us. But it is good to meet together as a church. We need each other.
Over all the earth You reign on high
Every mountain stream, every sunset sky
But my one request, Lord my only aim
Is that You’d reign in me again
Lord reign in me, reign in Your power
Over all my dreams, in my darkest hour
You are the Lord of all I am
So won’t You reign in me again
Over every thought, over every word
May my life reflect the beauty of my Lord
‘Cause You mean more to me than any earthly thing
So won’t You reign in me again
Lord, reign in me, reign in Your power
Over all my dreams, in my darkest hour
‘Cause You are the Lord of all I am
So won’t You reign in me again.
Over all the earth You reign on high
Every mountain stream, every sunset sky
But my one request, Lord my only aim
Is that You’d reign in me again
Lord reign in me, reign in Your power
Over all my dreams, in my darkest hour
‘Cause You are the Lord of all I am
So won’t You reign in me again
In me again
