“So David reigned over all Israel, and administered judgment and justice to all his people. 15 Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder; 16 Zadok the son of Ahitub and Abimelech the son of Abiathar were the priests; Shavsha was the scribe; 17 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were chief ministers at the king’s side.” 1 Chronicles 18:14-17 NKJV

God of everyday,

I love this little passage, when I reached it I sighed and took a moment. Lovely isn’t it. The Chronicler thought so and had time to note as all was well who was doing what. No internal rebellions, not external threats and judgement and justice working well.

Sometimes I forget when all is going well to stop, rest my brain and heart and just breathe. And remember to thank You. When all is well we can forget to enjoy You and the peace and the ongoing of everything without stress. Sometimes we are too busy to notice them. Sometimes we are too busy thinking what might happen. Sometimes we are too distracted by something small.

Help us to enjoy the times when all is going well, to appreciate it and build our faith. Spend time with You not repeating our woes but just giving spontaneous thanks for the things we take for granted.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Henry Smith composed the song during a time of unemployment, financial insecurity, and an uncertain future due to a degenerative visual impairment that would eventually lead to his becoming legally blind.

Give thanks with a grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son
Give thanks with a grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son

And now let the weak say, “I am strong”, let the poor say, “I am rich”
Because of what the Lord has done for us
And now let the weak say, “I am strong”, let the poor say, “I am rich”
Because of what the Lord has done for us
