“And in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them. 14 Then Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, “I have done wrong; turn away from me; whatever you impose on me I will pay.” And the king of Assyria assessed Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold. 15 So Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the Lord and in the treasuries of the king’s house. 16 At that time Hezekiah stripped the gold from the doors of the temple of the Lord, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.” 2 Kings 18:13-16 NKJV

God our Saviour,

Hezekiah buys his way out of the threat by his enemies, with gold and even stripping the Temple doors and pillars of their gold! So King Sennacherib knows Hezekiah has nothing of value left and bides his time. The gold will do for now and Jerusalem is subdued.

Sometimes we go through seasons when something weakens us and we seem to have no fight left. Even a hallelujah or counting our blessings is forced. It may be physical, emotional or mental it may be from a slipping away from feeding our spirit. It may be worry. Life can be a challenge. And it is no use looking at those who seem to sail through life.

Hezekiah has been ill. It could be weakness that made him act as he did. He could be emotionally drained from leadership or he could be facing a spiritual war within himself (Ephesians 6:12).

Sometimes we need to retreat into You God the one who fights for us. Moses discovered the truth t between the sea and Pharaoh’s army. You told Moses, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:14). Sometimes that is the hardest thing. Letting go and letting God. It may have been cheaper for Hezekiah if he had done that first.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord

Our God, You reign forever
Our hope, our Strong Deliverer

You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
You do not faint
You won’t grow weary

Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord

Our God, You reign forever
Our hope, our Strong Deliverer

You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
You do not faint
You won’t grow weary

You’re the defender of the weak
You comfort those in need
You lift us up on the wings
Like eagles

Our God, You reign forever
Our hope, our Strong Deliverer

‘Cause You are, You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
You do not faint
You won’t grow weary

You’re the defender of the weak
You comfort those in need
You lift us up on the wings
Like eagles

From everlasting to everlasting
God, You are everlasting
