“Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Meshullemeth the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah. 20 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, as his father Manasseh had done. 21 So he walked in all the ways that his father had walked; and he served the idols that his father had served, and worshiped them. 22 He forsook the Lord God of his fathers, and did not walk in the way of the Lord. 23 Then the servants of Amon conspired against him, and killed the king in his own house. 24 But the people of the land executed all those who had conspired against King Amon. Then the people of the land made his son Josiah king in his place.” 2 Kings 21:19-24 NKJV
God of patience,
So maybe Manassa found peace with You God at the end of his life and reign. But his son Amon only managed 2 years of the throne. He forsook You God and walked according to those who had forsaken You previously and worshipped idols. And the Chroniclers have nothing to add.
Perhaps he was so bad that his own servants killed him in his own house! And then those who knew the culprits executed then for murder and the killing of a king. All told it was not good for anybody!
But it started me thinking that sometimes even though it is painful it is also helpful to know what others think of you. Would it surprise us? I never found evaluations at work easy when faced with my own weaknesses.It is always easier to notice good and bad in others! Would it shock us to know what those close to us really thought? I had a wonderful mentor who used to tell me three things I had done well or was good at and then one thing I could improve on. I valued him and learnt because I knew he told me for my own good.
When I look back I can see how You God have encouraged me and also warned me. Led me forward and sone times held me back and I am grateful. Your love shapes me with kindness, please do not stop.
