 “We always thank God for all of you and pray for you constantly. As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 1:1:1-3 NLT

4“Even while we were with you, we warned you that troubles would soon come—and they did, as you well know. That is why, when I could bear it no longer, I sent Timothy to find out whether your faith was still strong. I was afraid that the tempter had gotten the best of you and that our work had been useless. But now Timothy has just returned, bringing us good news about your faith and love.” 1 Thessalonians 3:1-6 NLT

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died. 15 We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves. 17 Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. ” 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 NLT

Father God,

Paul wrote to the church in Thessalonica (Acts 17:1-4) soon after leaving. He wrote to give thanks for them for their love and hope. And to encourage them in their difficult situation. And to know without a doubt their future.

How wonderful to be remembered for faithfulness, love and hope and not for reciting their problems and difficulties. They didn’t need to be broadcast those as they were easy to see! It is difficult some times not to share the hinderances and antagonism that sometimes surrounds us. Rather than looking to God for encouragement and sharing that. We are emotional beings and their are times we need to talk to someone and not bottle things up. But not to become a broken record of negatives.

So today I use the first three verses as a prayer for my church fellowship and will try to live so they can see something of those qualities in me . . . And keep in mind that one day I will be with Jesus.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.

This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect communion, perfect delight,
visions of rapture now burst on my sight.
Angels descending bring from above
echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Chorus

Perfect submission, all is at rest.
I in my Savior am happy and bless’d,
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with his goodness, lost in his love.

Chorus

 “When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “Perhaps Joseph will hate us, and may actually repay us for all the evil which we did to him.” 16 So they sent messengers to Joseph, saying, “Before your father died he commanded, saying, 17 ‘Thus you shall say to Joseph: “I beg you, please forgive the trespass of your brothers and their sin; for they did evil to you.” ’ Now, please, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of your father.” And Joseph wept when they spoke to him. 18 Then his brothers also went and fell down before his face, and they said, “Behold, we are your servants.” 19 Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? 20 But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.” Genesis 50:15-20 NKJV

Father,

Even though Joseph had told his brothers they were forgiven and had brought them to Egypt providing them with a place to live and work, they doubted. Thy were still carrying the guilt and fear or his non existing retribution. They thought he had died in the wilderness where they left him all those years ago and now he was an important powerful leader with there future in his hands. He gave them assurance again.

Thankyou. That we have Jesus, closer than a brother and who is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings. You provide for us now and we have the promise of a future with You in eternity. Your Holy Spirit brings us that assurance that Jesus paid the price so we could be forgiven.

Blessed assurance. Keep on reminding us on the days we need encouragement. For those of us who need it, like Josephs brothers, forgive our niggling doubts and insecurity and grant us faith.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 NKJV

Lord of all, God of everything,

I could not leave Ecclesiastes without visiting these verses. The overall theme of Your book of Ecclesiastes, explained by a scholar (Christopher Gilbert) is: “the pain and frustration engendered by observing and meditating on the distortions and inequities pervading the world, the uselessness of human ambition, and the limitations of worldly wisdom and righteousness.” Why use one word when you can use 30! The world is sick and its depressing? But here in the middle is an oasis. The writer says and knows life is not all random and without purpose.

We all have different seasons, ages, phases in our lives (not all easy) and yet we can see You, God in them all. Though sometimes only with hindsight. Seasons when You, God are stretching us, holding us, growing our faith. When we are full of joy and see You working. Seasons when we are challenged to accept hard choices. Seasons when we need to consider others before ourselves. Seasons when we need to ask for help and be gracious.

Thank You that You are always the God we need, in every season. Our God of comfort and the God who fights for us and the God who provides and guides. Our God of today, of this season, now. You were faithful, You are faithful, You will be faithful. We cannot always pray life away, but You will see us through.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Lord of all,

For our family, friends, neighbours. To know and see You at work for good in their lives.
For our Ministers, lay leaders, church members. Plan their days and bless their steps.
For our nation and future Government. For those who will make good plans when elected.
For Gaza, and the Middle East. Move those with power to create a way to peace.
For Ukraine, a powerful move of Your Spirit to change circumstances and end this war.
For the Christians in Ukraine, Myanmar and war zones. Help them stand and serve.
For those who make plans for aid agencies and make it happen. The organisers.
For the new born and midwives. For those of many years and those recently bereaved.
For us, a time to consider what to stop doing and what to do. Time to consider any changes we should make.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
