“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 NKJV

Lord of all, God of everything,

I could not leave Ecclesiastes without visiting these verses. The overall theme of Your book of Ecclesiastes, explained by a scholar (Christopher Gilbert) is: “the pain and frustration engendered by observing and meditating on the distortions and inequities pervading the world, the uselessness of human ambition, and the limitations of worldly wisdom and righteousness.” Why use one word when you can use 30! The world is sick and its depressing? But here in the middle is an oasis. The writer says and knows life is not all random and without purpose.

We all have different seasons, ages, phases in our lives (not all easy) and yet we can see You, God in them all. Though sometimes only with hindsight. Seasons when You, God are stretching us, holding us, growing our faith. When we are full of joy and see You working. Seasons when we are challenged to accept hard choices. Seasons when we need to consider others before ourselves. Seasons when we need to ask for help and be gracious.

Thank You that You are always the God we need, in every season. Our God of comfort and the God who fights for us and the God who provides and guides. Our God of today, of this season, now. You were faithful, You are faithful, You will be faithful. We cannot always pray life away, but You will see us through.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Lord of all,

For our family, friends, neighbours. To know and see You at work for good in their lives.
For our Ministers, lay leaders, church members. Plan their days and bless their steps.
For our nation and future Government. For those who will make good plans when elected.
For Gaza, and the Middle East. Move those with power to create a way to peace.
For Ukraine, a powerful move of Your Spirit to change circumstances and end this war.
For the Christians in Ukraine, Myanmar and war zones. Help them stand and serve.
For those who make plans for aid agencies and make it happen. The organisers.
For the new born and midwives. For those of many years and those recently bereaved.
For us, a time to consider what to stop doing and what to do. Time to consider any changes we should make.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God
Born of his Spirit, washed in His blood

This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long

Perfect submission, perfect delight
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love

Chorus

Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Chorus

 Two people are better than one, because they can reap more benefit from their labour. 10 For if they fall, one will help his companion up, but pity the person who falls down and has no one to help him up. Furthermore, if two lie down together, they can keep each other warm, but how can one person keep warm by himself? Although an assailant may overpower one person, two can withstand him. Moreover, a three-stranded cord is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 NET

Lord, Our Lord,

Thinking about You being able to keep us from falling and without blemish (Jude 1:24), reminded me of a verses from Ecclesiastes. Two are better than one. How we need each other as well as You. You did not make us to be independent, self sufficient and like holy hermits. Two are better than one. Not just in marriage. I thank You for my Christian friends, for ministers, for family and neighbours, Christian or not! When I think back, so many people have said and done encouraging or comforting things at different times when I needed. And I have felt good being there for others!

There have been times life has left me cold and a friend has come with the warmth of Your love and prayed me through the worst of my worries. I have know as I lay to sleep that others are praying for me. When I have been hurt, they have poured Your healing words into my heart and helped me. Or just been there unjudging.

And a three cord strand? For me that will always symbolise You. The perfect trinity, unbreakable, three stranded love. And when two or thee get together to pray (Matthew 18:20), there You are in the midst. Holding us in that three cord strand. Keep us praying with each other. You are an awesome God.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Lord, Our Lord,

For our family, friends, neighbours. For the needs of today anf miracles for tomorrow..
For our Ministers, lay leaders, church members. Surround them in powerful prayer.
For our nation and future Government. Lead us through these days to those who will stand together for the best for our nation.
For Gaza, and the Middle East. A move forward past history and vengeance to make peace.
For Ukraine, a powerful move of Your Spirit to change circumstances and end this war.
For the churches in Ukraine and Myanmar. Help them stand and serve.
For overseas missions, orphanages, hospitals and agricultural programmes.
For those who stand up for justice, the vulnerable and those who cannot stand up for themselves.
For those who are the only Christian in their family, send them friends and prayer support.
For us a day to thank You for all our Christian friends, family and church friends. Smooth our day and hold us in love and joy.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

An army of ordinary people,
A Kingdom where love is the key,
A city, a light to the nations,
Heirs to the promise are we.
A people whose life is in Jesus,
A nation together we stand.
Only through grace are we worthy,
Inheritors of the land.

A new day is dawning,
A new age to come,
When the children of promise,
Shall flow together as one:
A truth long neglected,
But the time has now come,
When the children of promise,
Shall flow together as one.

A people without recognition,
But with Him a destiny sealed,
Called to a heavenly vision:
His purpose shall be fulfilled.
Come let us stand strong together,
Abandon ourselves to the King
His love shall be ours for ever,
This victory song we shall sing.

An new day is dawning,
A new age to come,
When the children of promise,
Shall flow together as one:
A truth long neglected,
But the time has now come,
When the children of promise,
Shall flow together as one.

 Now to the one who is able to keep you from falling, and to cause you to stand, rejoicing, without blemish before his glorious presence, to the only God our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority, before all time, and now, and for all eternity. Amen.” Jude 1:24-25 NET

Father God,

We all like to pick fruit without blemishes Father. Apples quickly show if they have been dropped. If we go fruit picking we choose strawberries that have not fallen and been nibbled at! This letter addresses hard subjects how life can knock our faith and joy, given half the chance! But Jude begins and ends reminding and showing we can be safe. Wrapped in Your love first and kept without blemish for eternity. There is no end!

Falling is not a pleasant experience and I have noticed that children and the elderly allow themselves to cry or cry out easier than adults who are embarrassed or don’t want to show weakness or emotion. Perhaps because younger and older are not worried about what others think – they just want help? You want us to ask for help.

To be kept from falling, to be caught in mid trip. To be given a soft landing and returned to upright, to know that the fall may hurt but not break our faith. This is what God promises. Not that things that cause us to trip will not come (Luke 17:1). They certainly do. But if we humble ourselves and pray (2 Chronicles 7:14), You will raise us up. Why would we, do we, try to go it alone, stand on our own, rely on ourselves? Help us call on You, Your strength, to made pure and blemishless (is that a word Lord)?) by Your Son. Keep us relying on You.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Father God,

For our family, friends, neighbours. Help them, hold them up, comfort and bless..
For our Ministers, lay leaders, church members. Raise them up and encourage them.
For our nation and future Government. Be amongst all that is said and done, reveal the best.
For Gaza, and the Middle East. A move forward past history and vengeance to make peace.
For Ukraine, an end to war. You are the God of history. Move in Putin’s life and Russia’s history.
For the churches in Ukraine and Myanmar. Protect and help them stand and serve.
For overseas missions, orphanages, hospitals and agricultural programmes.
For those who are having to learn to stand, walk and live again after the injuries of war.
For those who develop prosthetic limbs and gadget’s to help those with disabilities.
For us to have a day to pause to breathe in Your stillness, God even if we have to be busy.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Annie Hawks stated that this hymn came from a place of love and joy, an expression of her great appreciation for the salvation found in God. (More below lyrics).

I need Thee every hour
Most gracious Lord
No tender voice like Thine
Can peace afford

I need Thee, O I need Thee
Every hour I need Thee
O bless me now, my Savior
I come to Thee

I need Thee every hour
Stay Thou nearby
Temptations lose their power
When Thou art nigh

I need Thee, O I need Thee
Every hour I need Thee
O bless me now, my Savior
I come to Thee

I need Thee every hour
In joy or pain
Come quickly and abide
Or life is vain

I need Thee, O I need Thee
Every hour I need Thee
O bless me now, my Savior
I come to Thee
O bless me now, my Savior
I come to Thee

Lyrics: Annie S Hawks Verses, Robert Lowry Chorus.

Hawks writes, “One day as a young wife and mother of 37 years of age, I was busy with my regular household tasks during a bright June morning. Suddenly, I became so filled with the sense of nearness to the Master that, wondering how one could live without Him, either in joy or pain, these words were ushered into my mind, the thought at once taking full possession of me — ‘I Need Thee Every Hour. . . . Seating myself by the open windows, I caught up my pencil and committed the words to paper –almost as they are today”

She took the poem to Lowry, who added the refrain and music to the poem.  Mrs. Hawks continued by explaining “For myself, the hymn, at its writing, was prophetic rather than expressive of my own experiences, for it was wafted out to the world on the wings of love and joy, instead of under the stress of great personal sorrow, with which it has often been associated.”
