“Then David gave his son Solomon the plans for the vestibule, its houses, its treasuries, its upper chambers, its inner chambers, and the place of the mercy seat; 12 and the plans for all that he had by the Spirit, of the courts of the house of the Lord, of all the chambers all around, of the treasuries of the house of God, and of the treasuries for the dedicated things; 13 also for the division of the priests and the Levites, for all the work of the service of the house of the Lord, and for all the articles of service in the house of the Lord. 14 He gave gold by weight for things of gold, for all articles used in every kind of service; also silver for all articles of silver by weight, for all articles used in every kind of service; . . . ” 1 Chronicles 28:12-14 NKJV

Almighty Lord,

So David gave Solomon an ordered peopled Kingdom, which needed overseeing and managing. A list of dangers and dangerous people to be dealt with. Which was a great responsibility in itself apart from Solomon becoming the one people looked to for judgements and to keep the peace . . .

And then David lays before him the building plans of the Temple. Not just a magnificent building but complete plans with lavish interiors, outer buildings, inner rooms, courtyards and gold and silver articles for the Altar and holy Table. I suspect Solomon was Please io have plans it was such an amazing design. It was enough to organise and oversee it being built.

If we were to ask our forefathers in the faith what plans they had to pass on to us, I wonder what they would say? Look after the church, build a better one? I give thanks for those who did build my church building and do not take it for granted. But if there were no believers to sit in it? Whether we meet in churches, schools, homes, halls, I hope they would put people first. The body of Christ (the church) and those family and, neighbours who need Christ. Solomon saw his building task finished. We, along with all the family of believers, face a task unfinished . . . till Jesus comes again.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Facing a task unfinished
That drives us to our knees
A need that undiminished
Rebukes our slothful ease
We, who rejoice to know Thee
Renew before Thy throne
The solemn pledge we owe Thee
To go and make Thee known

Where other Lords beside Thee
Hold their unhindered sway
Where forces that defied Thee
Defy Thee still today
With none to heed their crying
For life and love and light
Unnumbered souls are dying
And pass into the night

We go to all the world
With kingdom hope unfurled
No other name has power to save
But Jesus Christ The Lord

We bear the torch that flaming
Fell from the hands of those
Who gave their lives proclaiming
That Jesus died and rose
Ours is the same commission
The same glad message ours
Fired by the same ambition
To Thee we yield our powers

We go to all the world
With kingdom hope unfurled
No other name has power to save
But Jesus Christ The Lord

O Father who sustained them
O Spirit who inspired
Saviour, whose love constrained them
To toil with zeal untired
From cowardice defend us
From lethargy awake!
Forth on Thine errands send us
To labour for Thy sake

We go to all the world
With kingdom hope unfurled
No other name has power to save
But Jesus Christ The Lord

Repeat . . .
