Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God, for your sins have brought you down. Bring your confessions, and return to the Lord. Say to him, “Forgive all our sins and graciously receive us, so that we may offer you our praises.Assyria cannot save us, nor can our warhorses. Never again will we say to the idols we have made, ‘You are our gods.’ No, in you alone do the orphans find mercy.” The Lord says, “Then I will heal you of your faithlessness; my love will know no bounds, for my anger will be gone forever..I will be to Israel like a refreshing dew from heaven. Israel will blossom like the lily; it will send roots deep into the soil like the cedars in Lebanon. Its branches will spread out like beautiful olive trees, as fragrant as the cedars of Lebanon. My people will again live under my shade. They will flourish like grain and blossom like grapevines. They will be as fragrant as the wines of Lebanon. “O Israel, stay away from idols! I am the one who answers your prayers and cares for you. I am like a tree that is always green; all your fruit comes from me.” Let those who are wise understand these things. Let those with discernment listen carefully. The paths of the Lord are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them. But in those paths sinners stumble and fall.” Hosea 14:1-9 NLT

Lord Our God,

Last words, end of books, summaries. Here is Hosea’s. After all the judgement, rebellion and unfaithfulness he has clearly put before the Your people, he sums up with an opt out option. Even if they do not take it, which they do not at this time, it is there as a witness. Then I will heal you of your faithlessness; my love will know no bounds, for my anger will be gone forever. (Hosea 14:4) What an option! God is forever open to embrace someone seeking His forgiveness.

Then when we read the end of the Bible, the last chapter of Revelation we find Lord Your promise, “Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will be permitted to enter through the gates of the city and eat the fruit from the tree of life.  Outside the city are the dogs—the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idol worshipers, and all who love to live a lie.” (Revelation 22:14,15) and “Come. Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.” (Revelation 22:17. What an option for us, for anyone!

I choose Christ, choose the robe of righteousness, choose life, choose to drink deeply of God’s love for all eternity. Thank You for Your written Word and thank You for speaking the Word into our history and for being unchangeable in Your commitment, love and faithfulness.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

And some refuse to see
A willing and humble heart

“Look, today I am giving you the choice between a blessing and a curse! 27 You will be blessed if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today. 28 But you will be cursed if you reject the commands of the Lord your God and turn away from him and worship gods you have not known before.” Deuteronomy 11:26-28

“But if you refuse to listen to the Lord your God and do not obey all the commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come and overwhelm you: 16 Your towns and your fields will be cursed. 17 Your fruit baskets and breadboards will be cursed. 18 Your children and your crops will be cursed. The offspring of your herds and flocks will be cursed. 19 Wherever you go and whatever you do, you will be cursed.” Deuteronomy 28:15-19 NLT

God of blessings and curses,

Sometimes it is hard for us to see You as Judge, as disciplinarian. We prefer to see You as a God who loves, forgives and provides. But there is evil still at work in this world and still causing pain and using human hands and lives to do ill.

We do look forward to heaven and know that evil cannot enter and we would not want it to or those ruled by it. And we know that You have to clearly show what is right and wrong. That has never changed since the Garden. And we know how easily temptation can look good and how soon murder and jealousy were evident in the first generation of Adam and Eve! And good people do suffer in this life.

We look at our world and the misuse of money, sex and power and the curse it brings to many. I say misuse because You do send riches and positions to some who use it for good. We wonder at the pain many can suffer at the hands of one man or woman. One day You will judge us all. Thank God we have Jesus, but Your Son is not a get out of jail free pass. He reads hearts and minds and knows us all full well. Even if we struggle sometimes. You give us Your armor ( Ephesians 6:10-13) and safe passage to heaven (Hebrews 11:6,16) Deliver us from evil and keep us choosing Your way. And we pray that those who refuse to know You will come to nothing and be brought down. Those who can will find You in an unexpected miraculous way.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
