“Set me as a seal upon your heart,
As a seal upon your arm;
For love is as strong as death,
Jealousy as cruel as the grave;
Its flames are flames of fire,
A most vehement flame.
Many waters cannot quench love,
Nor can the floods drown it.
If a man would give for love
All the wealth of his house,
It would be utterly despised.

“Song of Solomon 8:6-7

God of Love,

For me this passage talks about committed love between a man and a woman and also between You, God and Your adopted children (Romans 8:15-17).

A reminder that both relationships are intended to be sealed as permanent. The human one, as with all sin, being forgivable if broken. It is not the unforgivable sin but has painful consequences for all involved if broken. The divine relationship You never give up on but we have choice. I am filled with wonder at testimonies where You, God have drawn back a “lost and rebellious soul”. And they have known once again that tremendous welcome of the prodigal with their father. And the deep and equal love You have for those who follow faithfully. Or like me have wobbles sometimes.

Jealousy good and bad? Your Word says You are a jealous God (Exodus 20:5). Perhaps I too should be on the lookout for something I am jealous for, pushing You aside God. Sometimes, is it that we are holding them in greater stead than You, God? A hobby, a favourite grandchild, a desire . . .

Your love was seen as unquenchable flames of fire in the burning bush (Exodus 3:2). Love like a fire, with great power and usefulness – for good or even for destruction? Love has lifted some to great heights; it has consumed others and left only ashes. But Your Love God cannot be bought, sold or earned because it is given freely. It is total and irreversible. But for us a choice. I will choose Christ daily, moment by moment and seek to keep the seal unbroken.

This is a defiant hymn at unbelief. We do not renew vows we live them. It is good to sing them.

I will choose Christ, I will choose love
I choose to serve
I give my heart,I give my life
I give all to You

Some days are hard and I fight to see the truth
But I’m gonna take a stand in all I say and do

I will choose Christ, I will choose love
I choose to serve
I give my heart,I give my life
I give all to You

Some fall away and some refuse to see
A willing and humble heart I pray You’ll find in me

I will choose Christ, I will choose love
I choose to serve
I give my heart,I give my life
I give all to You

You are grace, You are peace
You are hope and healing
You are faith, You are joy
You are God revealing
Jesus, My Lord and King

I will choose Christ, I will choose love
I choose to serve
I give my heart,I give my life
I give all to You

Sunday 1st March 2026

“For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off. 12 It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend into heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 13 Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 14 But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it.15 “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, 16 in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.” Deuteronomy 30:11-16 NKJV

Lord our God,

You set before Your people of Israel, life and good choices or death and evil. And they had a choice before they went any further with You. They had a choice to go forward Your way with life and a promised land or their own way without him and his blessings.

Jesus gives us that same stark choice, to chose life in Him, with HIm. Not any old good life but abundant life, life in all its fullness (John 10:10) and eternal life (John 6:67). Its seems so simple when You choose Jesus and I wonder why it took me so long?

And then each day holds choices Lord God. Sometimes we know which is right with You. Sometimes we know which is our own want and may be tempted to still do it. Sometimes we ask and You want us to choose. Because all choices are good or You want us to learn and grow. It makes having a relationship with You one in which we do learn and grows and develop, hopefully to be more like You Lord.. Thank You that we do not have to try to reach heaven or travel across the sea. You placed Your Word, Jesus in us in our hearts just as You promised Jeremiah (31:33). Today we chose life, learning to hear, listen, follow, obeying and worship.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Sunday 20th July 2025

Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God, for your sins have brought you down. Bring your confessions, and return to the Lord. Say to him, “Forgive all our sins and graciously receive us, so that we may offer you our praises.Assyria cannot save us, nor can our warhorses. Never again will we say to the idols we have made, ‘You are our gods.’ No, in you alone do the orphans find mercy.” The Lord says, “Then I will heal you of your faithlessness; my love will know no bounds, for my anger will be gone forever..I will be to Israel like a refreshing dew from heaven. Israel will blossom like the lily; it will send roots deep into the soil like the cedars in Lebanon. Its branches will spread out like beautiful olive trees, as fragrant as the cedars of Lebanon. My people will again live under my shade. They will flourish like grain and blossom like grapevines. They will be as fragrant as the wines of Lebanon. “O Israel, stay away from idols! I am the one who answers your prayers and cares for you. I am like a tree that is always green; all your fruit comes from me.” Let those who are wise understand these things. Let those with discernment listen carefully. The paths of the Lord are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them. But in those paths sinners stumble and fall.” Hosea 14:1-9 NLT

Lord Our God,

Last words, end of books, summaries. Here is Hosea’s. After all the judgement, rebellion and unfaithfulness he has clearly put before the Your people, he sums up with an opt out option. Even if they do not take it, which they do not at this time, it is there as a witness. Then I will heal you of your faithlessness; my love will know no bounds, for my anger will be gone forever. (Hosea 14:4) What an option! God is forever open to embrace someone seeking His forgiveness.

Then when we read the end of the Bible, the last chapter of Revelation we find Lord Your promise, “Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will be permitted to enter through the gates of the city and eat the fruit from the tree of life.  Outside the city are the dogs—the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idol worshipers, and all who love to live a lie.” (Revelation 22:14,15) and “Come. Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.” (Revelation 22:17. What an option for us, for anyone!

I choose Christ, choose the robe of righteousness, choose life, choose to drink deeply of God’s love for all eternity. Thank You for Your written Word and thank You for speaking the Word into our history and for being unchangeable in Your commitment, love and faithfulness.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
