“Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said: 2 “How long will you speak these things, and the words of your mouth be like a strong wind? 3 Does God subvert judgment? Or does the Almighty pervert justice? 4 If your sons have sinned against Him, He has cast them away for their transgression. 5 If you would earnestly seek God and make your supplication to the Almighty, 6 if you were pure and upright, surely now He would awake for you, and prosper your rightful dwelling place. 7 Though your beginning was small, yet your latter end would increase abundantly.” Job 8:1-7 NKJV
Almighty Lord,
Eliphaz has had his say and Job has struggled with this traditional understanding of God. God punishes the wicked so anyone suffering must have sinned. Now Bildad has opportunity to speak to his friend . He pipes up and accuses Job of being full of wind. Not someone trying to find God in his trouble but someone speaking empty rubbish.
Bildad has no compassion, he says that Jobs sons and daughters must have sinned, they did something to deserve to die, You Gd cast them aside! And if Job would earnestly seek You, God repent and be upright and pure he would not be in the state he is. He would be prospering. How wrong could he be. And perhaps that is not to worst of it. It is that he has no compassion of comfort or help to offer Job. He has presumed he knows what You are like God. He thinks he is speaking on Your behalf. Help us not to judge. More than that, not presume to speak for You when we do not know Your heart and the situation from Your point of view Lord.
